Use of Time Shift to give an edge in proleague matches? Subject description: Vote on whether its fair for me to do so and tell me what you think. |
|
|
I have been messing around with time shift and smallball throttle and I've decided to use it to my proleague advantage. I will starting next season initiate exhibition games in RAPID succession like 4 or 5 in a row. I will crank up the throttle to 200 and end the games within 15 second. I will run it on all my proleague opponents.. if they give me a match I will avoid them until later when they are more vulnerable (when I timeshift their games each day to see when they are weakest) If they are losing to me consistently I will play them.
The question is, is someone who can simulate 4-5 games in 1 minute to instantly see when it makes most sense to initiate a game an unfair advantage?
Quite frankly Im not sure but I plan on doing it anyway.
(correction due to old married dudes post, I will change MY stadium to my opponents stadium before each exhibition game, I own all the stadiums.) _________________ Sphere of Influence - 491504

Don't use it so won't vote.
But exhibition games do not reflect PL games in any way.
They are played in your stadium not the opponent's ... so you are not at the disadvantage of the being the visitor.
They also are not the same as BL games .. plus as we know BL games are not the same as PL games.
But I wish you luck in your quest to be King of the world ....
BTW .. that's a Iceberg dead ahead ...
BTW nice edit to your original post .. I guess I should have quoted you ... LOL
It really makes a poll fair when you edit the choices and the topic to be more specific or even a u-turn from the original discussion _________________

He said he would do his experiment with exhibition games. If you quit an exhibition game, it doesn't continue on the SB server, right? So in that respect, he is correct.
But, I also agree that success in exhibition games doesn't = success in BL or PL games. Way too much work going in to it if you ask me! _________________ If you can't beat 'em... pantz 'em!

Not cheating at all. Exhibition games are meaningless and you (might, should, could) find that they don't really match up with PL games at all. The only time you'll get repeatedly similar results are when the team is way below or way above you anyways.
Keep track of the Exhibition games for fun. The sway in scores is interesting to see. _________________ "I can resist anything except temptation" - Oscar Wilde |

I tried the exhibition game thing for a while with Timeshift, I think it will let you know how your team is doing more than how the opponent's team is playing. If your team is winning most of the time against a power house in exhibition games, I'd say it's worth a shot. Definitely NOT A LOCK! I remember one of my teams 403057 (ROTOR) lost SEVEN one run games in 1st League once, so maybe I'm way out in left field, in fact, I'm quite sure of that one. _________________

I haven't been here for a while, but I'll weigh in for this thread...
There are many random things that create the winner and loser of each game. An exhibition game is, as most of everyone said, not going to totally give you an accurate picture of what your team can do. Think of it this way... Theoredically (is that how you spell that??) you should be able to play anyone that has a smaller star rating than you and you should be able to beat them, right? Well, no, due to randomness you may have a team that wins 50 times in a row on exhibition and loses that one time in the PL game. As for the timeshift and for the other thing you mentioned that I don't know about, you are only looking at a picture over and over again, within the same minute on the server. It may give you a win, but then again, as you play your exhibition game the other guy may be training. If he hits the server a second before you play him, that new training is all going to be there for him. Yeah, that's an akward situation, but still, think about it. Then you add the random way the server acts, which is the same reason for why a 6 star team can beat a 9 star team on any given day, and your exhibition games mean absolutely nothing...
As for the topic of using a time shift during the game you are looking at a situation like this. That time shifter just increases the speed of your computer clock. That's not a really good thing, but it isn't all that bad either. If you had two computers you could do an experiment and realize that all the time shift does for you is give you the results faster. If you were to double speed through an inning it would be easy to record who got hits and where they went and exactly what happened. The game would mimick that exactly in the normal speeded/non-timeshifted game... So, what does time shift do for you? Well, if you want to initiate a game and you have to leave and go to work or something, you can see the results to the game before leaving.
Well, off to bed for me now, enjoy my novel... |

I think Exibition Games, BL Games, and PL games all will give your team different results. _________________

I knew it was either that or with the D, so I kept saying it out loud and didn't get a deciding factor because they sounded the same... and... well... I didn't want to use the spell checker!!! |

Very well said!
TS or SBT doesnt give any advantage at all, seeing how the games still have to play on the servers in real time. _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

hehe, you guys missed the point.
In exhibition games you can turn the game off and start a new one at anytime and it won't be recorded, thats why I can see 4-5 games in 1 minute. (Iron and beaner were confused by this)
Anyway, Im a bit confused. The players play differently in exhibition games? Thats confusing.. I could understand in real life but they are just a bunch of digital images.. Im not sure they'd give it anything less that 100% each time. But I could be wrong.
Well, It has worked for me.. I was scared to play a particular team based on they were a former 3rd league team, I played them 4 times and blew their doors off each time so I challenged them and won convincingly. I guess this only works with the "blow out" factor, meaning if my team is way better than the others.. then I can see by timeshifting it. _________________ Sphere of Influence - 491504

sure, you may be able to see that many, but really why?
exhib games dont count, lol and most of the time BL or PL games play differently than exhib games do _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

read the post above yours and help me figure out why that is... they are just digital images.. Reguardless it seems the general notion is that exhibition games play different.. I dont understand why but apparently its been made to be that way. _________________ Sphere of Influence - 491504

One main reason the games may turn out differently.. is due to the fact hen you play an exhib game you're always going to play in your home field (or has this changed?) I know some teams play differently in different parks, etc
What I dont get, is why sometimes you start lets say 3 exhib games.. you'll win 2 by 1 or 2 runs, and lose the 3rd by 10 lol.. Ive sen it happen before.. its weird _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

Well what I do is, I have all the stadiums and I just change it to the stadium of my opponent. And as far as the scoring, Ive seen that happen in big league games a lot too.. however oh well _________________ Sphere of Influence - 491504

To enter my non-important opinion, I think all games are the same. Whether they're Exhibition, ProLeague, Big League. The only thing that makes them different are the SmallBall servers. You'll get a different result each game, if you're consistently winning against a team in exhibition than it's safe to say you'll win a BigLeague or a ProLeague game against them. But what do I know. |

I tried something like it, it didn't give me any good results. I was just curious
Against 10 teams, I played out 10 exhibition games, figured out how many wins and margin of victory, if I felt comfortable in success meaning 7 wins out of 10 and a margin of victory of 4 runs or more, then I'd play them... final conclusion...
Out of those 10 teams I lost 6 games in BL against them. Margin of victory was at least 2 runs. Another thing that you just can't factor in, unless you do this with BL is, no matter if you play in their home park, you are still the home team. All six of those games that I lost, I lost in the bottom of the end of the game (one game went 26 innings). |

One thing y'all haven't mentioned is the base stealing in exhibition games. Scoring will be different in Ex games because they are still working on players stealing bases and Commish uses Ex games to test. Or at least there was some base stealing the last time I watched an exhibition game. _________________ 4623 DT 9* PL5 | 55444 DT 9* PL4 | 105130 DT 9* PL8 | 449262 DT 9* PL4 |886 DT 7* | 741 DT 7*
