Meaning of a Beta Tester |
|
|
I am hearing all this commotion about how football is having problems (that may or may not have already been fixed) and that many Alpha testers feel that it is not ready to be released to Beta testing yet...Here are just a few quotes from a Thread entitled "Is Monday the big day?", and in no way am I calling out CJ or NM, these are just the ones that stuck in my head.
| Quote: | | "I'm hoping they have a boatload of fixes coming because that's the only way there should be a release Monday. You never know!" | - C.J.
| Quote: | | "I agree with CJ. There are alot of things still not right with the game and if its released just to appease the masses then there will be more whining and complaining about the problems that are still in the game." | - NMShooter
(I have the utmost respect for you guys, so please don't take this post as a jab toward you )
...However, isn't that what Beta testing is about??? Isn't the role of a tester defined as being able to identify problems and then being able to help solve the problems???...Seriously, if I am a beta tester expecting everything to be absolutely perfect then I am not qualified to be competent tester...So for those of you who want the game to be perfect, then please wait for the final release...however, if the Green team is hesitant to release football to beta because it is not perfect then what is the point of even having beta testing??? Why don't they just forget about Beta and go straight to full release??? Although I believe the Alpha testers are probably doing a fine job, I don't think anything but good results would come out of releasing it to Beta. More testers = a greater population sample of diverse customers = more complete feedback = a better final product. And the sooner the better, right??? Time=$$$$...I have complete confidence that the AndNow crew know exactly what they're doing, but I guess I'm just looking for some feedback...I am definitely not the most informed individual on this topic, but this was just something that I had bouncing around in my head |

Well Bonner all I can tell you here is some of the changes that were made recently had some flaws and when they thought it was fixed it wasn't. I believe it is close since the last update this season seems to have corrected one major issue, and skill loss seems to have slowed but I can't confirm that because my training is slipping bad. TP usage on a skill is not what it should be for the amount of skills needed to train in, goes to fast for amount of skill gain.
I believe it is close, but you all should know that you had better like the training with the ST!! Slow training process and it is not versatile, if you train dedicated, you can't train others in a training zone and do both. You have 15 players and it takes initially in dedicated for reaction skill 10+ minutes per player if I remeber correctly, need someone to clarify this.....CJ you out there? _________________

I had to train reaction the last day or two because the last bug kept me from training that for a week, and it took pretty well all my day at work off and on to do four teams. I would say that BTB's estimate of 10 min apiece is pretty accurate if we are talking about using a full pie. Half a pie will take you about an hour to do the whole team.
Anyway Bonner, I think the main premise of our comments you have been seeing is that the problems that have already been identified should be considered for correction before we go to another level of testing that will open the game up to more scrutiny and may or may not lead to the discovery of MORE bugs. What good will it do to open the game up to Beta testing so MORE people can have the same complaints? |

I think the main difference between the Alpha testers and beta testers will just be the size of the groups testing.
The Alpha testers were not a big group and I think were chosen mainly because Commish knew these people were dedicated. It doesnt mean that anyone who wasnt a tester wasnt dedicated, its just that Commish saw us on a day in and day out basis and knew he could get alot of information. The group was kept small. Id say no more than 20 people if that high at all. There was a special private forum set up so we could all discuss issues, bugs, ideas etc... I think the alpha group was just to work out the major noticeable flaws and bugs.
The Beta testers will be a group quite a bit bigger. I remember when I beta tested the DT, there were alot of people doing it and lots and lots of suggestions. Im sure this got overwhelming at times. I think the beta for soccer (football) will be the same. I think the beta group will be to refine the bugs and flaws as well as offering suggestions and with the use of the alpha testers to get rid of the obvious flaws this will be easier.
As far as the bugs that happened before the "rumoured release" date. These were some major bugs that prevented training at all. If it had been released at the time mentioned, some of these bugs may have still been eveident and testing wouldnt have been possible anyway. _________________ "Oderint dum metuant" |

Thanks |

| Nice input guys!...Thanks for the shedding some light...It's kinda hard sitting here in the dark on the other side of the football wall (as you can tell by many of the posts in Q&A)...I think a lot of hopeful Betas would be able to relate to a bunch of little kids sitting at the Christmas tree on Christmas morning asking why Santa didn't show up the night before...Not that there were any promises or anything, but it seemed like everything was pointing in the right direction: rumors on Monday's release, the last HPN football update saying maybe a couple of days, etc...but I guess we'll get 'em next time, right Coach??? |

| Yes, Baseball was indeed at a much rawer stage but i think nmshooter sumed up almost everything i was going to write in my reply. I tested DT and i know there was a lot of other people and like nm said, I'm sure it became quite overwhelming for them, because it sure would have for me. |
