These banners and logos that people are getting are great but they're WAY TOO BIG. There are lots of peoples signatures that are two or three times the size of their average posts. It's a complete waste of space and it's slowing down the pages. I think there needs to be a limit like the limit that there is on the avatars. I hope I'm not the only one that thinks this..... Confused

I agree, too.

they are big use of bandwidth

.....I wouldn't mind if there were no graphics in signatures; that's what avatars are for...

I agree.... hence the "ONE" logo at a considerably reduced size. I was lucky enough to have 3 logos made.. which I will switch out periodically.

I wonder if GW can limit the size on the images posted.

You could make an animated gif that rotates the three images....

Good point - Hopefully people will do it on their own.

Just an FYI - The sizes can be edited easily in HTML, and HTML is allowed in your sigs

With The bandwith Issue Long as the Images are smaller than 20k in size you can have a 400x500 size image that is 10k then have the asame size in Pixel size over 2 mb in .bmp format
None of my banners are over 25k in size so as in "bandwith" ther web safe ..
and Annimated Images are Huge Hogs on Bandwith
I take my 425x150 12.5k size Image over a 75x 80 annimated.gif that has 30 k any time...
But I do agree 1 banner sign per person..
Thank god I did not do Flash or serious Annimation Banners I refuse to do them For forums... Static are ok.. LOL My 2 cents

I see it as both a bandwidth problem and a presentation problem, personally. I have cable access so the loading is no problem but I just see it as kind of silly to see posts where it's ALL signature. Confused The banners are hella cool, but they just take up a lot of space that I (and others) have to scroll through.......

Cheers

It also depends on how people has the Monitor settings and also If a person is on a 15" than a person on a 19-21"
On both of My Puters I have 19" that is set at 1024x768.. and the work one has a Dual 19's.
But Like I said There web safe but theres alot of Grey area.. to be talked about.. but all I know that they are web safe and forum safe.. but when it goes Multi team it tends to get crazy..
Confused But Im just happy with 1 team 1 banner.. so for me there wont be any more.. LOL Except a flash banner done in Maya.. LOL that will Tie up the bandwith HUGE.. Snickers Rolling Eyes

If your going to have team banners, I suggest shinking them to Ladyhwk size, make them click to your teams page, and take the text links out. Smile I explained how to do it over here http://www.forums.smallball.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1287

That would be nice. Cool

I have had a discussion with KP and his banners are not the problem.

Although his original banners were quite big....It's either multiple banners, or larger ones that is the problem.

We are monitoring it and will ask those people that we deem to have large banners in private to resize them if we feel they are too big.

Of course that does not mean those people will do it, or even reply to us... therefore if it gets to be a full time job... then I will have to install a mod that will do the resizing for everyone.

I really don't want to go that way because:

1) Believe it or not, we don't want to put restrictions on people and their fun.

2) I just don't have the spare time anymore to install mods for this board anymore.

Hopefully I won't have to. I hope you guys can take care of this on your own. Maybe people can watch out for them and remind people or something.
