Commish there seems to be a bug with overtime.

I understand that u fixed the overtime play so that it would end when a player singles home the winning run in the end of an OT inning. Seemingly u fixed it by effectively ending the game when a player hits a linehit with a runner on 3rd.

However this is what happened to me in the bottom of the 9th of game #33692:

Opposing team at bat, two outs, runners on 1st and 3rd. The batter hits a short ball to the SS which bounces right next to him and stops a few mm next to him. It would have been an easy out at either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or home, however instead my players stop playing, the runner on 3rd runs home, the game ends, I lose.

Now this isn't a big deal since it hopefully won't happen too often, however I'd prefer having back the old system, which although not true to MLB rules at least didn't change the outcome of a game.

This didn't change the outcome of the game! The game was already played, and you were just watching a simulation of what the computer rendered.

This is valuable so that you can see what players need which particular skills worked on. But you lose the game or win it before you ever see it. If you didn't lose that way, you still would have lost some other way.

I believe I saw a post from the Commissioner recently, that the AI bugs are next on the list to be looked into.

Hope I was able to explain this as well as I understand it. And I hope this helped you out. Smile

The simulation has rules it follows and which it uses to calculate the outcome of the game, from what I saw in this game the current rule works like this:

If a team has a runner on 3rd base and a ball is hit over the infield without a fielder catching it the game ends regardless of the fielders throwing abilities. In calculation that would mean that the position where the ball comes down is calculated and if it comes down outside a fielder's catching range then now check on the fielders ability to get the ball and throw out the runner is made.

Now I understand that it may not always be possible draw conclusions from the play shown graphically to the calculations but this one seems pretty clear to me.

I understand what you are saying, it's not playing out to the end. But do you understand, based on the skills of both teams at the time of the game, plus some unknown variables (luck included), you would have lost that game no matter how it ended.

I know it's frustrating to watch. But I'm sure it will be addressed soon, since everything else seems to be working well right now (fingers crossed.)
You may want to email smallball@andnow.net to be sure the devlopers know about this specific bug.

That is exactly where my point of view differs from yours. Had the play been calculated correctly, i.e. had the programm calculated the time it would have my SS to run to the ball and throw it to home vs. the time it takes the runner to get to home instead of granting an automatic hit once the ball went past the infield, the game would with 99% chance have enden differently.

No game is lost before it is calculated, even a 1* team could, in theory, beat a 9* team it all comes down to the luck factor. I may still have lost the game but THAT particular play was just not calculated correctly and that makes it a bug.
I never said it was a major problem but the way a play in that situation is calculated is simply wrong.

This is not about the result of the calculations it is only about the impression which I get from the graphic showing of the game that no calculations took place at all.

The impression you get doesn't matter to the program. Wink It just does what the programmers have told it do.

This is a true problem to our eyes. But if the program was right, and this game was started at the exact same time, you still would have lost. Only in a different way.

Someone else help me out here. I think I'm being pretty clear. But maybe someone can explain it better than me. Smile

I think I understand what u mean. You say the program calculates the result of the game based on the skills of the teams and some luck factor. So once the code said my team lost I would have lost no matter what the final play was, right?

The point is I'm pretty sure the program works like this: It calculates every pitch and every catch one after the other, each time compairing the skills of the teams and the individual players. So going through the game the score changes and in the end there is a final result which stands, but only after the last play (which takes about these few seconds before the rendering sets in).
Now after all these calculations are done, the rendering sets in and renders the results of each play into the game we watch.
So the final play which cost me the game has of course taken place before I saw the first pitch of the game, but it was nevertheless the deciding play of the game.

tim~ here is what i think happens when a game is registered. I think the entire game is played out say...a million times faster then when we watch it. I think it is then slowed down so we can watch it but the skill is the factor of who wins or loses the game. what do you think??

Had the program determined that your SS would make that out, it would have found some other reason for you to lose. Thats just how the game played out the loss at that particular time.

This really does need to be fixed, but it didn't cause you to lose.

And I really hope you don't think I'm picking on you. Smile

I think I remember Commish saying that the game IS calculated pitch by pitch, play by play, etc. So each play does affect the game, not just overall skill. If the play had been calculated correctly, it could have changed the outcome of the game. I recently played a game where the line-drive-to-3rd bug came into play. It was an 0-2 count, and I had a guy on third. Foul ball to third, fielder gets the runner "out," but I guess it had been fixed so an out wasn't recorded. However it reset the count, so my batter was able to withstand 2 more strikes before singling home the run.

If the play would have been 'calculated' correctly, the outcome would still be the same, the way you see it would be different.

I don't know how to make it any clearer than that. Smile

you're right jefe...commish has plainly stated that the players' actions on the field directly affect the outcome of the game and the outcome is not predetermined. so yes, the bug did cost manny the game.

Here is how is DOES NOT work:

Based on skills and other things the winner is decided then the game is played out to justify that decision.

Here how it DOES work:

the skills of each play influence the players performance during the game. How fast he runs, how he throws, bats, etc. The simulation just instructs the players what to do based on good old baseball rules, then they try their best and the game is played out. The results come from all the events in the game and are NOT predetermined.

It would be impractical to first decide who wins then force the plays to make it true. There are bugs but at least for now the bugs are true for both sides.

I hope that helps clear it up.

Here's another bug if were keeping track. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. A ball is hit to the wall. Runner on third crosses home...Runner on second is thrown out at the plate. Credit is not being given to the runner that scored before the out was made. I've seen this about 3 or 4 times.
