Christmas Traditions? |
|
|
So, today is December 1st, and that time of the year is getting closer and closer.. It seems like this year has just flown by. I was sitting here this morning wondering while I was counting up change (i'll explain in a second) does anyone here have any special Christmas / Holiday traditions you like to follow?
See, I save up spare change all year for mine. I never use change to pay, even if something comes up to a .01 cent difference I use a dollar to break it even.. Then, every December I count up all the change I've saved up through the year and I use it to buy things for a poor man that lives a few miles down the road from where we live. Last year I had saved up enough to buy him a new Kerosene heater, a couple of kerosene lamps and a few months supply of the oil itself. This year will make the 5th time I've done it.
So I just started wondering this morning.. how many people actually follow through on "Traditions" every year? Do you have an old tradition passed down through your family? maybe you started a new one yourself?
Just got me thinking..
Also, on a smaller note, every Dec 24th I watch "A Garfield Christmas Special" I have it on an old VHS thats almost wore out.. thankfully a few years ago they released it on DVD as well.. I refuse to throw my VHS copy away though.. I've had it for ever it seems lol _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need.

I love watching all the Xmas specials..... Rudolph, Frosty, Garfield, Charlie Brown, The Grinch, and I think there's one with all the Muppets. Really helps me relive my childhood a little bit. _________________

When I was growing up every Christmas morning my family had blueberry muffins for breakfast before we opened our presents. Now as I have grown up and changed religions we don't celebrate Christmas so my wife and I celebrate our wedding anniversary on May, 13 by getting up and having blueberry muffins for breakfast.
Also Every Christmas Eve the fire and rescue dispatch center that my old fire department gets there calls from broadcasts a Santa siting and no matter what I listen for it. Even now while I am in Michigan and they are in New Hampshire I can hear it over the internet. Just listening to it makes me feel a little less homesick.
When my sister and I were kids we would get up very very early and open our stockings. Coming up on January 25 Jenn will have been gone 2 years. She passed away from a sudden illness. I never had a chance to say goodbye and tell her I love her. I just miss my sister this time of year. _________________ Don't let the chain of love end with you.

Christmas Traditions |
|
|
My family has a few traditions. On Christmas eve we always go to our churches christmas eve service. The last time I remember not going is the sad year of 2002. My dad's in the Air National Guard. He was sent to Saudi Arabia in August. He was supposed to come back in November, but something always came up and the date was pushed back. Finally he got to leave around December 22nd. He was supposed to be home on the 23rd, but the plane broke down in Germany. So they left Germany on the 24th. They were supposed to come back at about 8:00 p.m. So they had all the families gather at the base to wait for family members arrive. They got huge bags of gifts for us kids, where people picked out gifts for us sort of like a angel tree. I was very thankful for this as I got some pretty good stuff. None of that mattered though cause my dad and the rest of the people who went with him showed up at around 11 p.m. We didn't get home till about 12 a.m. Christmas day. I don't think I slept a wink that night. Now every year since then I always reflect on that time and am grateful that he hasen't left since.
We also go to my grandmothers house every Christmas. My mom's whole family comes there. _________________ Why do some people do stupid stuff? |
