It sure does.
Quote:
With the right rookie on the mound, it was the scrappy St. Louis Cardinals who looked sharp in the World Series.

Even with a week off, the Detroit Tigers were ragged.

Anthony Reyes pitched brilliantly into the ninth inning, Albert Pujols made Detroit pay for pitching to him, and Scott Rolen also homered to help St. Louis cruise past the Tigers 7-2 in the Series opener Saturday night.

"I don't know if I can top this," Reyes said.

Game 2 is Sunday night, with Kenny Rogers pitching for Detroit against ex-Tiger Jeff Weaver.

I understand why so many are picking the Tigers because they won more games than St. Louis, but the World Series is now. The Cards are coming off a tremendously competative series with the Mets, and the Tigers hadn't played in a whole week. The week off doesn't help because baseball is a game of rythm and timing. The Cards lost a lot of games because Isringhausen had a bad year, Pujols was out for 20 games, and Eckstein, Rolen, and Edmonds all missed significant time with injuries. Now, they are all healthy, and Izzy has been replaced by a hot rookie closer.

I know I'm posting here after game 1, but I did say prior to game 1 on the TsT forum that I predict the Cards win games 1, 3, 4 & 7. This is so exciting. I'm just glad my team is still playing. Go Cardinals!

Like I said at the start of the post-season.

Cards in 7.

I can't believe how many people think the Tigers are gonna take this series.

Really?

You weren't impressed when the Tigers beat the heavily favored Yankees in 4 games?

Or when they swept an Oakland team that won 93 games?

Or the fact that they had the best pitching in baseball all season long?

St. Louis finished with the worst record out of any of the playoff teams, had a seven game losing streak at the end of September, have Anthony Reyes and Jeff Weaver in their rotation (regular season ERA's of 5.06 and 5.76), and didn't look great against the Mets.

I think the week-long rest helped Detroit and their young pitchers before the World Series. But now all of a sudden the Cardinals win a game, and everyone thinks Detroit is done. Congrats to the Cards for getting this far, but they're just not good enough to win 3 more against the Tigers.

Of course I am impressed with the Tigers and how they're playing, who couldn't be? It's just St.Louis have been massively underrated and until they knocked out the Mets they haven't had a mention all post-season.
St.Louis has a strong lineup and capable pitching staff and I believe they have what it takes to go all the way.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE NL! Very Happy

It's Carpenter vs Robertson tonight. At home, I have to think the Cardinals are at an advantage. If they take a 2-1 series lead, you have to think they could win the thing.

how many teams have come from behind in the world series, bear inmind detoit have home feild advantage, i think

They basically lost that after the Cardinals won game 1. I don't understand the 2-3-2 format, in my opinion it favors the away team. I guess 2-2-2-1 is a little inconvinient for baseball, but still.

so then, whats wrong with 1,1,1,1,1,1,1 theory, i mean they are professionals, why not do something inbetween games, like travel to and from

but with it being 2-1 cards, and now 2 more games, they can take it 4-1, but lose 1 game at home and detroit can take it home for the win Confused Shocked Surprised

2-1 Cards. Now what, folks?

Bailey, baseball is a game of series. Mostly 3 games series, and a few 2 & 4 game ones, so a 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 format doesn't fit the mix. 2-3-2 is perfect. A 3-3-1 would also be understandable, but 2-3-2 is the way its always been for almost 100 years. G, explain how a 2-3-2 favors the NL team. I'd love to argue against that terrible logic.

I like that all you guys still keep picking the Tigers. Keep doubting the Cards...

I hope nobody hurts themselves jumping off the Tiger bandwagon.

I didn't say 2-3-2 favored the NL team, I said it favors the team without "homefield advantage". If the team without home field advantage steals 1 of the first 2 games, they can finish the series off at home with 3 straight games. That just doesn't seem right to me that the team without homefield advantage has 3 of the first 5 games at home.

2-2-2-1 is the best format for a 7 game series.

as far as the home feild advantage goes, i agreee, 2,2,2,1 would be the best, Wink

G, your logic is still off. Yeah, the team without homefield advantage could sweep at home to win the series after winning one on the road. However, it's alot easier to steal one of 3 on the road than one of 2. Would you rather have to win 2 at home or 3 at home?

I've predicted the first 4 games exactly. I hope I'm wrong with my prediction in game 5, but I figured Reyes would be starting for St. Louis, and it's going to be Weaver instead. Before the first game, I said Cards win games 1, 3, 4, & 7. I'm going to game 5 tomorrow night (it's funny because I actually have a game 4 ticket). I'll be in the first row of section 240, behind the long first base side electronic scoreboard. Look for me in my Pujols jersey, and don't forget to root for the Cardinals.
GO REDBIRDS!

As G said, people watch your step getting off the Tiger's bandwagon! Razz

Before a single pitch was thrown in the WS I said Cards in 7 and people laughed that off. Nearly there!

The Yankees already made themselves look bad. There's not much the Tigers can do about that.
