I only started playing SmallBall in March, but instantly loved this game. I came over to the forums at the same time and it was still extremely active.

I had missed Commish by a couple of months, but still the community had not died. Tournaments were being run frequently, catering for all skill levels, which is one of them main reasons I found SmallBall, looking for tournaments to play in.

Gradually, these tournaments began to die, the community became more hostile towards its members. Through this there would always be the mention of the dreaded Greek Wizard banning you from the forums or knocking you back down to size.

However, as I became more familiar with the forums and the community I came across Greek Wizard (luckily not on the receiving end Wink). He ruled the forums strictly but was still fair at the same time.

Thanks so much GW, I'll definitely be there in whatever you're doing.

See you round,
Chris.

Over three years ago, while surfing the internet on a summer day, I would encounter a web link to an internet game of sort. Clicking the link I encountered smallball in its like, and out of curiousity made a team. Over the three years to follow, I would involve myself in numerous leagues, and encounter and make many friends along the way with this deep love of the game.I would develop my baby team (220765) from this and still raise them and hold onto them untill this day.I am saddened to see smallball as a community slowly but surely diminishing. Gdub, u did the best you could, and as one of the many shrewds of faithful owners, I just want to say thank you.

You freaking clown... Smile

You can all say Hi to the other half of the WizChexx team. (I am bigger so I get first billing Smile )

Chexx will be my partner and share in the day to day operations of the new site.

Oh ya, he is the man responsible for the awesome graphics you are going to see. He is not from SmallBall, in fact he is a very good friend of mine here in Calgary.

this guy's work will blow your mind.

This has turned out to be one of the best threads ever. Especially with getting to see some people post here who don't very often.

I can't wait to find out the rules of the new forum. I wonder if we'll be able to use more "colorful" language. Cool

Can't this be nominated for thread of the year then? Smile

The new site will have a LOT less rules than this does.

Here we follow AndNow's and The Commish's requests for what is allowed and what is not.

I really am not that strict, and as such it will be a much more relaxed place to be. There will be an age requirement on the site as well Shocked which will prevent most of the issues we have here.

It will be focused mostly on the 16-40+ age bracket.

Let's just put it this way... if you Like sports, you will like this site.

Hmmm. Will there perhaps be a "grandfather clause" which would allow for any current respected members under 16 to join?

Just re-read the entire thread. Boy, I'm starting to get jazzed about what GW has in store (whatever that is).

I'll give a shout out to Chexx, I haven't met you yet, but I'm excited to see what you're bringing to the table.

Wow, this is saddening, i created my first team here, 16656, over 5 years ago, seems so long ago to me. Now that this community seems to be slowly coming to an end, I wish that I had taken more part in it. Hopefully, whatever is going to happen, with what GW is doing will greatly benefit the community as a whole.

I haven't been active in SBland for a while now, I knew something like this would happen. I'm a little late on the farewell post. Embarassed

GW, I haven't had many exchanges with you, but I've always admired what you have done with this community, keeping it in tip top shape, and keeping those annoying gnats out of here. Wink
You are one of a kind, and I wish you would not go!

Now on to the point at hand..

I'm so glad you are going to be continuing on with the game, keeping everyone in the community in touch! I'm excited to see what you have in store for us all. I know I will enjoy the new site, being a sports addict and all.

I can't wait.
I might just have to come back... Cool

Thanks so much GW, for all that you've done for this forum. I hope that I'm informed of the new link / project / SmallBall antics you love to perform and get to see what's going on!

I enjoyed my 2 and change years here, and I will see all of you again sometime,
GCool.

No Safo??? Surprised

I think I'm on the 40+ side. Rolling Eyes

Oh, I thought he was wanting to stay close to 40 and you're way too far past 40 to count...

I think ukce is right. If he meant 16-40+(and above), he probably would have just said 16+, right? Wink

Wow, that is right. Guess I'm done. Sad It's been fun people.
I'll just have to find a hot bingo game in a smoke-filled gym.

Actually, my great-great grandfather has a wonderful time watching pigeons in the park. You might want to try that out. It won't tire you out like a rousing game of bingo might.

Wow, having been out of the game for quite a while now I hadn't realised Smallball was heading this way. I thought I'd stick my head in the door for a quick look around and now, two hours later, I'm still reading away. Looking at a few of the names in this thread I guess I'm not the only one who comes in from time to time. Wink

To GW, I can't say I knew you personally, I think we may have spoken once or twice a few years ago during your rare visits to the chat room. One thing I can say though is that I've always respected and appreciated the hard work you've put into creating these forums and more importantly creating and holding together a community.

Most of us have made great friends out of this game, friends that we would have never expected to meet when we first signed up for a little baseball game that was probably only supposed to pass the time for a few hours, not provide enjoyment for years. Almost two years after leaving this game I still find myself catching up with other former SB'ers for a chat as I'm sure many other people do aswell. That is a tribute to your work in here and I really hope that's something you can be proud of.

P.S. Goodluck with your new forums!

Well GW it has been a great 3 years and 10 months that I have had the pleasure of playing this game with you. I did enjoy my time on Shot Online with you as well. You have done a great job with the forums. You were always there for everyone of us no matter what and that is more than can be said for the Commish. You have always been stern when needed and always had someone's back when they needed it. In my eyes no one else could or would of done as good as job as you did. You always made me laugh with your sarcastic comments, which were perfectly placed. I am sad to see you go but I do not blame you in the least. Smallball is sinking wether anyone wants to admit it or not. This game is not what it once was. I wish you the best in whatever you do in the future.

Take care my friend................

Carr

Oh yeah please do this:

Sounds sad, but everything good comes to an end one day - Game itself (IMO) had so much potential, but seldom was given the just attention to make it so.

The Forums itself have been a saving grace for the ones who play religiously, or have moved on but want in on the SBWorld gossip.

GW - cudos lad, been a pleasure butting heads with you, never disrespectful, as you may think.

Pour a brown bottle and - cheers.

Dam it all to hell GW, do you know how much i love SmallBall. There is no other game like it. I been working so hard to develope my #752 team. They became a 9* just 52 days after i started the team. The are close to being a 10*, in their first year. And my #184652 has been inching towards 1PL.

Damn am i going to miss this game. There was a time when i was hopeful of seeing a SmallBall car in NASCAR, i had such big dreams for us.
