I can't believe no one answered this:

This one is soooo easy...

13. In 1971, singer Don MacLean sang a song about, "the day the
music died." This was a tribute to ___________________.

The day the music died is reportedly (never actually confirmed by Don MacLean) February 3, 1959 in which Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper died in a plane crash.

One of my all-time favorite songs.

Just a bit of extra trivia.. American Pie was the longest song (time wise) to reach #1 on Billboard's Charts.

Some other wierd facts:

Waylon Jennings for example was scheduled to be on the plane, but gave his seat to The Big Bopper

Ritchie Valens actually flipped a coin with one of Buddy Holly's bandmates, and "won" the seat on the 3-seater plane.

There was also one more person, a female, who's name escapes me at the moment, that was supposed to be on the plane as well, but decided to drive instead. She dies in a car crash that day if I recall correctly.

For those interested, wikipedia, google, etc have some fascinating interpretations of what the lyrics actually mean and also some other great stories about that day. I did not look anything up, this is all from memory, but I used to love to read about this and know the lyrics by memory.

It truly was a sad day.
