WHats ERA? |
|
|
| On the team stats page, I'm baffled at the ERA stat which is only available for the pitcher. What does it stand for? |

it is for
Earned
Runs
Average
so it is the ave runs scored against the pitcher, dont worry about that stat too much whilst your team is improveing, working its way up, then maybe you could worry a little about it. _________________ BB . 55229 . 130295 . 13611 . 8358 . 856 (SBD Community)

ERA |
|
|
| So if my ERA is 5.35(which sucks!), it means that every game, 5 runs are scored against my team? |

not sure if it adjusts for when you only have 8inn, or 10inn as in extra innings _________________ BB . 55229 . 130295 . 13611 . 8358 . 856 (SBD Community)

it actually does...check your boxscore when you have a extra innings game and you'll see your ERA doesn't match with the amount of uns scored for the other team... _________________ 484371 9*

lol, well of course it doesnt add up when u have an Extra inning game, because the ERA stat is an avg for 9 innings.
so if you pitch 11 innings in a game, your ERA isnt gonna match up.
there is a formula which i am too lazy to look up that constitutes ERA, turning it into a stat that shows how many runs a pitcher gives up every 9 innings he pitches. _________________ SBCF Admin

Actually you 5.00+ ERA isnt that bad. I would say it's average to above average. You have to remember that this is SmallBall, not baseball. There is a huge difference. _________________ "The desire to be a champion is not nearly as persuasive as the commitment to be a champion" |

(Earned Runs/Innings Pitched) x 9
(19 runs / 89 innings) x 9 = 1.92
Therefore, if Curt Schilling is charged with 19 earned runs in his first 89 innings pitched, his ERA would be 19 divided by 89, which is .2135, times 9, which is 1.92, a very good number.
Unfortunately we don't get total innings pitched.
Also, some runs are not earned. When a player makes an error and the runner eventually scores, that would be an unearned run. It does not go against the pitcher's ERA. But in smallball it does. |

I believe the formula is:
Runs allowed * 9
-----------------------
# of innings pitched
Thats dived by number of innings pitched. So in MLB if a pitcher gives up 3 runs and pitches 7 innings then his ERA for that game would be 3.86. Since you only have one pitcher for the whole game in smallball that would be 3.00. _________________
