As I watch some of my games, I'm beginning to realize that sometimes the ball is hit hard and is within running distance of the SS or 2B. So when the player runs to catch the ball, he still misses the catch. However there's no "miss" in blue when he misses it. Is this a catching problem?- or should be SS and 2B become faster so they can get in front of the ball quicker?

Thanks for any input. Very Happy

I think a good glove makes a difference, but I have no proof or real evidence. It just seems that way, so I keep them trained in catching. My SS takes away a lot of hits.

Well I would say both , you need good running speed at those positions , and good catching skill to grab it , I often see my ss and 2nd baseman going into the "hole" to record an out.

I would make sure they are both good runners which are "almost" outmaxed in running and good catchers too. Since I keep them upto speed I do not see this happening very often.

That is probably because they lack batting skill or your pitcher requires some training Wink

It all depends on if you can find the right player. Each player has a position that they will do best at, my shortstop personally covers a ton of ground, catches pop ups in the outfield and gets balls deep in the hole, just experiment and find a player that plays the best at SS or 2B
