we are closely approaching the NFL season. It starts in only 4 days. As I did last season, I will post my picks every Wednesday (Tuesday this week because of the Thursday game) during the season. In these posts, feel free to challenge my picks or post your own. As for now, I want to hear how everyone thinks this season will turn out (Division Winners, Wild Card, Superbowl, etc.)
First, I'll start with division records this season. (now edited once due to people realizing a math error- happy now?)
AFC East
Miami- 9-7 (div. winner)- ended on a roll last year. They will continue that.
New England- 8-8- not their year
Buffalo- 6-10
NY Jets- 5-11

AFC North
Pittsburgh- 11-5 (div. winner)- still got a shot at taking it all
Cincinatti- 10-6 (wild card 2)
Baltimore- 7-9- being called the dark horse this year. i dont think so.
Cleveland- 5-11

AFC South
Indianapolis- 13-3 (div. winner- first round bye, home field throughout playoffs)- no challenge within division
Jacksonville- 8-8- not a close division
Houston- 7-9- at least its an improvement.
Tennessee- 5-11- a disaster again

AFC West
Denver- 12-4(div. winner- first round bye)
Kansas City- 11-5 (wild card 1)- watch out for this team. possibly can overtake denver.
San Diego- 9-7- wrong division for them
Oakland- 4-12- no chance in hell.

NFC East
NY Giants- 11-5 (div. winner)
Dallas- 11-5 (wild card 1)- look for a fantastic finish down to the wire in this division
Washington- 8-8
Philadelphia- 7-9

NFC North
Chicago- 8-8 (div. winner- dont deserve it though)
Minnesota- 7-9
Detroit- 5-11
Green Bay- 5-11 (Farve, i'm sorry but you shouldnt have returned)

NFC South
Carolina- 12-4 (div. winner- first round bye, home field throughout playoffs)- being labeled a big frontrunner in the NFC.
Tampa Bay- 10-6 (wild card 2)
New Orleans- 6-10
Atlanta- 6-10 -vick who?

NFC West
Seattle- 12-4 (div. winner- first round bye)
Arizona- 10-6- my dark horse. if they stay healthy, they can overtake seattle. mark my words.
St. Louis- 6-10
San Francisco- 2-14- thats being generous

Playoffs
Wild card round
NY Giants over Tampa Bay
Dallas over Chicago
Kansas City over Miami
Pittsburgh over Cincinatti

Divisional Round
NY Giants upset Seattle
Carolina over Dallas
Indianapolis over Kansas City
Denver over Pittsburgh

Conference Finals
Carolina over NY Giants
Denver upsets Indianapolis

Superbowl
Denver 31 Carolina 27

challenges welcome now and with my picks later this week.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Patriots are going to do better than a pitiful 8-8. I say something more like 12-4. 8-8 in their division and the Dolphins in first?! Me thinkst not Rolling Eyes Wink Other than that I'd say everything is ok.

I didn't even bother checking out the other scores. If you think the Patriots will have a .500 season, then ... blah.

Anyway, I pick the Cardinals to be the "last to first" team this year. They look .. decent.

But the Pat's are going all the way Smile

Cinncinnati takes it all....Pittsburg takes a huge fall. Texans go .500
New Orleans does decent but nothing Earth shaking. Titans go at least .500, Detroit Rocks the house with Kitna at the helm.
Cowboys fall flat. (becasue I want them to)

I really don't see why people think the raiders are going to suck so much. They have a pretty solid team. If only they got a top of the line quarterback they would be up there with the best teams.

I'm pretty sure Randy Moss is their only good player...

Aaron Brooks in terrible. Not just okay, he's TERRIBLE.
Lamont Jordan should be no more than a backup running back.
Offensive line is not good at all, too many draft busts.
Lost Charles Woodson, their only good defensive player.

A couple years ago I had them going to the playoffs, but now I'd be surprised if they win 6 games in a tough AFC West.

Yankee: I love how you have the entire NFL going 268-244. I'd love to know how that happens.

Chippy, only you would do that math there.... Surprised

Crazy, the NFL is 24 games over .500, and the Patriots finish 8-8. I don't see that happening....

well let me respond to some of you people... the patriots will be a pitiful 8-8 because they lost some key players in the offseason (notably vinetieri and yes he is important because he is like an automatic 3 points). And also theres the situation going on with Branch's holdout who is a big target for Brady. The Patriots are not the same team they always were and will not win the division no matter how good Brady is.
Now to the one who said Cincinatti will take it all. You might be right, i wont argue with you now, it all depends on how Carson Palmer does in the regular season. We will find out. The Cowboys wont fall flat unless Terrell Owens stirs up as much trouble as he did with the Eagles. Detroit wont rock the house for the simple reason that they dont have a good team.
And finally in the last response the Raiders arent as bad as i say they are. They are just in the wrong division and have the possibility of losing all 6 games they play within the division.

Im sorry for not doing the math. I didnt have the time. Who would actually go through adding it up. Ill fix it later.

Randy Moss sucks. Dante Culpepper made him look good and he made Dante Culpepper look good. Apart from eachother they can't do much. Especially when he has Aaron Brooks throwing him the ball.

Took all of 1.5 minutes to do the math. Boy, that was time consuming!

Not insulting you, just saying that your predictions are entirely off. 24 games is a lot. Plus, I'm assuming you didn't even pay attention to actual schedules. Those certainly have to be factored in. It's easy to say "Team A is good, they'll go 12-4" and "Team B is mediocre, 7-9 for them!". Any idiot could do that (and, with the Patriots being 8-8 in a league that's 24 games over, it seems an idiot did do just that!) You really need to look at each teams schedule, and figure out (not as time consuming as you'd actually think!) what their records will be based on that.

well actually i did factor in the schedules. i know who has a tough schedule. i just never thought of doing the math to make sure my records were balanced. it fixed now. If i didnt factor in schedules and other outside factors, then i wouldnt have the patriots 8-8 now which i stand by. You will see it 17 weeks from now too. It's time to say goodbye to the pats. Im not an expert (as u can tell). Ill admit that some of you (maybe even you) are probably a bigger expert than me, but i do some research before i make these predictions.

Of course being a Giants fan makes me put a slight bit of influence toward them. Thats why I have them barely above Dallas. Could go either way, but they will be up there. AS for the Patriots, I don't hate them, I just really think they aren't going anywhere this season. If they prove me wrong, power to them but I don't think so. It's just my opinion (and apparently it is ONLY my opinion).

Want a good bet - Tennessee at 85-1. I'd like to know odds on making play-offs.

I'm picking this side to be a better side than anticipated. I reckon Vince Young won't start till week 3, and when he does he'll become a crowd stopper aka - Vick. I was a little disappointed with Lendale White being their #3 back, he has potential to become the next Jerome Bettis with his size and style of running.

Other than that longer shot at succeeding, i can't really pick 1 side to actually dominate anymore.

Indy has to be the odds-on fav. just because of Peyton and co.

8-8 would surprise me, a lot. Looking at their schedule, I'm seeing 10-6 as a "bad case" scenario (not worst case, though.) That's assuming they lose twice to the Dolphins, and also lose at home against the Bears, both of which I doubt will happen. I don't see them losing any of their 4 combined games against the Bills or the Jets. Green Bay might not beat anyone this season (certainly not the Pats), and Detroit, Tennessee, and Minnesota don't have what it takes to topple the Pats either. That's 8 wins right there that I see.

I guess I'll go out and say 11-5 for the Pats.

I'm riding high on the Bengals, honestly. Something about them just strikes me as having it this year.

I'm a big Pats fan, but I would put some money on the Ravens if I were a betting man. McNair, teamed up with Derrick Mason again, and that great defense. All they've been missing is a good QB, and now they have it. I see them losing to the Pats in the AFC Championship game.

Actually, being a New Englander and a fan of the teams here, I always prepare for the worst. And yes, I do hate New York (really, who doesn't Wink ), but I prefer the Giants over the Jets, by A LOT. The Giants were actually the choice team for New England before the Pats came around...But that was "before my time" Wink And the Pats have done real well over the past five(ish) years, so of course they are a contender.

Well last season I picked Pittsburgh to go all the way but then again I always do. Laughing Last season I had an unbiast pick also so here goes.

Biast pick: Steelers duh
Unbiast pick: Redskins, I think Joe Gibbs take this franchise all the way like he once did...this team has one of the best WR cores in the NFL.

-Also I want to predict the Cards getting into the Wildcards! Surprised

I'm pretty surprised by this particular pick. Atlanta with the same record as the Saints, and a worse record than last year, despite all of their off season additions? I'd love to make a side bet with you on this one lol.

above Dallas? hahahaha. Your entire post is discredited when you put Dallas at 11-5. Why is that, because they got TO? hahahahahahaha. You funny. Dallas will be last in the division if Brunell stays healthy, and 3rd in the division if Brunell goes down. But no chance of finishing above the Giants and Eagles, no chance at all. Their O Line SUX. Bledsoe is going to get murdered.

I say the Colts go for another 14-2 season. Cool I think they will play in the Super Bowl and lose, or win in a REALLY tight game.

Of course with Vinatieri kicking the game winning field goal. Cool
