I've seen the Regular Trainer, and also photos of the Deluxe Trainer, but I was wondering whether or not it was possible to build a sucessful team without purchasing the $20 Deluxe Trainer? I'd rather have it, but am just not sure I want to make that commitment yet.

Any replies would be appreciated. Smile

Don't forget you can use the DT for free every Friday. Use that day to determine if the price is worth it to you or not! Smile

It is very possible to make a team successful without DT. But the downside is it takes longer and more of your time to train in ST then DT. Of course you could always take advantage of Free DT Fridays. Just giving my $.02 Wink

Nightmare is correct. Ultimately you can do the same stuff in ST that you can do in DT. The main difference is that you can train in individual skills in DT (i.e. Contact and Power hitting cages). Because of that difference it takes a different kind of committment. But there are plenty of trainers that are successful with ST. Zachary made it to PL1 recently with his ST team I believe. When I was active in SmallBall (and I hope to be so again) I trained ST. Read mlthmp's Standard Trainer Guide. That is always a help with ST trainers (including myself). If you feel that you need the DT go ahead an buy it. But you don't need it to be successful, it's just a different type of committment. Good Luck.

Personally I think it is fairly easy to get a 9* team using the ST, the problem comes when trying to compete with the best teams in the game, but there are a few trainers (Money, Zach) who have built amazing ST teams that are among the best right now so it is definitely posssible, just a little more of a challenge. It takes more patience and you really have to get to know your team, so you can use the free DT Friday for addressing your team's weakness, instead of training what is easiest in the DT.

Hope that helps and hopefully welcome to Smallball. Very Happy

I did in fact read mlthmp's Standard Trainer Guide, and it was a huge help to me. I haven't yet used the DT for free on a friday (thank you for the tip though, I look forward to trying out the DT this weekend). I'll decide afterwards whether or not to use purchase it. Thanks a ton for your responses, guys. Smile

Also, dont forget to check the trading forums, it shouldn't be hard to get a DT for 10-15 dollars there.

DT is worth every dime. Check the trade forums for a good deal too. LCD has them at a great discounted price.
Dont forget to find those pitchers.
As hferris said welcome to SmallBall.
If you need a link to finding the pitchers PM me. I'll be glad to get it to you.

That was cool for him to give ya that team. You may also want to keep training your ST team. Help you get a feel for both sides to training and for ST tournaments.
