What do you guys think of Mannings comments after the game.

I lost complete respect in him. He bashed his offensive line, and said it was the reason they lost. A big no-no.........you never bash the people that protect you. Even Boomer and Terry Bradshaw said after.......he sould have took it like a man, and said Pitt played a better game without crying and pointing fingers. The bottom line was Pitt. had a great game plan, and played a awesome defensive game.

I didn't see/hear his comments.. but that just shows a terrible lack of class right there (just from what you posted he said)

you can never blame your line like that.. even if they don't protect you like they have before.. its a big no-no to bash them like that.. lol

he wont be a popular person in the locker room for awhile

I've never liked Manning.. and after that, I dislike him even more.. if that's possible. I mean, when he called off the punt team, he was taking over himself. I know Dungy said it was the plan, but that's a bunch of bull-larky. Manning is turning into that kind of a player like TO, power hungry. Getting into the playoffs, he thought he could carry the team, and roll over any of their opponents. Then when Pitt stepped up to the challenge, and completely shocked them, he blamed it on his protection. He never had my respect.. never will now. Rolling Eyes

When does his contract expire? Might see him wearing new colors if he keeps that talk up.

Well, if any of you watched the game, it WAS the O-line's fault and he has the right to call them out like that. He was having to dump the ball off with just a 4 man rush.

He's still my hero!

Still, it's not something a QB should say. Lots of QB's have had their O-lines play poorly, but you gotta show some team pride and take a little of the blame, or just avoid the subject completely.

He is a good player, dont get me wrong. I just think its funny how when they win HE gets all the glory, yet when they lose.....its everyone else's fault. To tell you the truth, he played a really bad game right along everyone else. The play that was called a incomplete pass, was indeed a interception. All experts and everyone that has seen the play cant believe it was called a incomplete pass. Manning always comes out smelling like a rose Rolling Eyes

He doesn't suck Smit, its okay to dislike him but not one person can deny his talent...I perosnally loved him in college but in the pros I have lost interest. I cheered today so much that i thought I would lose my voice but I still hate cheering against Peyton after what he did and still does for the Tennessee program but I would rather do that than not root for Pittsburgh. GO STEELERS!!!

A good O-line should be able to adjust to their defense.

I watched the game, Manning had terrible blocking infront of him, no doubt, but that still doesn't excuse what he said... That's the type of talk you expect to hear from a highschool team. However, I could see why, as a QB, he would not have been in the best of moods. Pointing fingers fixes nothing, but I could see why he may have needed to vent a little.

The interception was without doubt an interception. Not a single person watchibg that was not shocked at that call. Challenging it alone was an act of pure desparation and it was a BS call.

At first I thought the "interception" was in fact a catch, but after the ruling I saw why it wasn't. He never stood up with control of the ball. Rolling on the ground is not a "football move" by any stretch of the imagination. Just because you put your hands on the ball doesn't mean you have control of the ball. He was never in a controlled position with the ball. He struggled to stand up with it. If you over-analyze it, you see that he had two hands on it, and his knee kicked it away. You have to just look at the play without over-analyzing. He never stood up and had control of himself with it.

BTW, to stay on topic, Manning is too predictable: great in the regular season, choker in playoffs. Laughing

Wow I missed his comments as well.

I guess he had to have been pretty frustrated after having made a good run at an undefeated season. I think a lot of people, including myself and the Colts, thought they would cruise on through the playoffs to the Super Bowl. I guess the letdown got the best of him.

What can you expect from a Volunteer anyway? haha Wink

you never blame anyone for something that your WHOLE team has a part in. If the only players responsible for any part of the outcome were just the QB and the O-line, you still shouldnt blame anyone, especially at his age, show lack of respect and maturity

"Football Move" Is so general, what the hell does it mean anyway.

Wouldn't playing football be considered a football move? I think they should make the rule that you must complete a non-football move. Like, catch the ball and then take a golf-swing before they consider it a catch.

But seriously. You don't think that catching the ball (while on his feet), tumbling over, (with the ball securely in his arm and tucked into his chest), then attempting to stand up and accidentally hitting it with his knee is not an interception? You're crazy.

It had to have been a catch... Look at the logic here, if he didn't try to get up he woulda just stayed down, not had full controle of the ball while standing, and it still woulda been an interception. He had the ball in his hands for a good 2 seconds without showing any remote signs of losing controle of it. He was getting up with full controle of the ball and he kicked it away in the midst of getting up, not in the process of catching the ball.

Without a doubt. It was terrible to hear what had happened to his mother. I feel that he, Troy Polamalu, and Carson Palmer are the most genuinely nice guys in the NFL.

Anyone else catch Troy take off his glove, point to his wedding ring and say "I love you" after he made that interception on Sunday? (Yes, it was an interception).

My thoughts are summed by a local sports radio guy. Manning said it was a breakdown of protection. Anywho who has every watched or played football knows it was a breakdown of protection. he didnt call out specific names. yes sure we know he meant the O line but cmon. If that's not broken down protection i don't know what is. Yes i give some credit to pitts d line but still. I like Manning just the same. He says the things he does because he is passionate about winning. No he shouldn't have said it but I feel he spoke the truth and he just lets his passion get the best of him. Many other qbs will just shrug it off and hit the bar. BLah

maybe he is hinting on wanting to be traded to the Texans, because we all know what superior O-Line they have.

To add to what Dan said......

Every expert that talked about the play, and many ex pros all said the same thing..................it was a catch. I cant even imagin a person that knows a little about the game, not seeing it that way.

In response to all who responded to me: I was wrong. It definately should have been an interception. That guy on the Steelers just looks so reckless in everything he does out there with his hair flying around, that it looked as if he wasn't in control, even though he was. When I was watching this game with friends, we all said the Steelers should have challenged the challenge. Laughing

WTG Redbird, it takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. BTW...just read this Very Happy

NFL: Polamalu call was a mistake

Associated Press
Posted: 6 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) - The NFL said the referee made a mistake: Troy Polamalu caught the ball.

The league acknowledged Monday that Referee Pete Morelli erred when he overturned on replay Polamalu's interception of a Peyton Manning pass Sunday in the playoff game between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

Mike Pereira, the league's vice president of officiating, said in a statement that Morelli should have let the call on the field stand.

"He maintained possession long enough to establish a catch," Pereira said. "Therefore, the replay review should have upheld the call on the field that it was a catch and fumble."

After the reversal, made with 5:26 left in Pittsburgh's win over the Colts, Indianapolis went on to score a touchdown and a 2-point conversion, cutting the Steelers' 21-10 lead to 21-18. That led to a wild final few minutes, filled with unbelievable twists and turns, including Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt's missed 46-yard field-goal attempt that clinched it for Pittsburgh.

On the play, Polamalu made a diving catch of Manning's pass, tumbled with it in his hands and got up to run. As he did, he fumbled the ball, then recovered. Colts coach Tony Dungy challenged and Morelli ruled Polamalu had not completed the catch.

Shortly after the game, Morelli said: "I had the defender catching the ball. Before he got up, he hit it with his leg with his other leg still on the ground. Therefore, he did not complete the catch. And then he lost the ball. It came out, and so we made the play an incomplete pass."

Had the call stood, the Steelers would have had the ball at their own 48 with an 11-point lead.

"The definition of a catch - or in this case an interception - states that in the process of making a catch a player must maintain possession of the ball after he contacts the ground," Pereira said.

"The rule regarding the performing of an act common to the game applies when there is contact with a defensive player and the ball comes loose, which did not happen here."

The NFL almost never makes public the result of its reviews, although it did three years ago, when Pereira said officials should have called pass interference against San Francisco on the final play of a wild-card game with the New York Giants. The correct call would have given New York a second chance to kick a game-winning field goal in a 39-38 loss.

The call in Indianapolis incensed Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter, who said after the game: "I know they wanted Indy to win this game; the whole world loves Peyton Manning. But come on, man, don't take the game away from us like that."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello had no comment on Porter's statement.

In the past, players who have made such statements have been subject to fines.

Polamalu's overturned interception wasn't the only unusual call. Earlier in the game, when the Steelers were preparing to go for a fourth-and-inches from the Pittsburgh 48, two Colts defensive lineman ran across the line of scrimmage, pointing at the Steelers as if one of the linemen moved.

The officials stopped the game, but called no penalty.

Replays appeared to show Alan Faneca barely flinched. But Steelers coach Bill Cowher argued the Colts made contact with the linemen, which would have forced an offside call and a first down. Instead, Ben Roethlisberger ran a quarterback sneak for a first down, which allowed Pittsburgh to use another 5:02 before punting.

No, the list I'm talking was about people throughout the world, and Manning was 1...

Yea, he sucks terribly. Anybody can throw 49 touchdowns, 10 int, and have a QB rating of 121.1 and then the next season lose only 2 games(one which he didn't play in much.) AND throw over 4000 yards in 6 straight seasons. Yea, anybody that sucks terribly can do that.

I don't see the big deal here, I myself am an offensive lineman and when I have a bad game who esle is to blame? If it was my fault the QB was killed (and it was in the Manning's case) then I think he would have the right to point that out. He didn't shoot his mouth off he was very polite about it and honestley I am not saying this because I am a fan of him...I loved watching him struggle against Pittsburgh but you can't ignore the fact that the O-Line didn't perform well at all and neither did Peyton because he is used to having great protection. Instead of blaming the Colts why don't we congradulate the Steelers for a great defensive game!

Spoken like a true Vol. Wink

Like I said, frustration can get the best of anyone. He was on his backside in a heartbeat on several plays. He'll probably get a ring before his career is over.

The reason I posted this was because I have been a Football fan for many years. Not one team has ever won because of one player. It takes a whole team to win or lose. The prima donnas of today, like to always point fingers at who is at fault for the loss. When in fact the reason is simple...........they got out played. Would Marino have said his line let him down? would Montana? would Stabler? did Fran Tarkenton
ever blame his offensive line for the loses and never winning the super bowl? Manning may have the smarts and the arm........but he didnt have the class when he said that. The oldtime players that had comments after he said it made that very clear, and I for one agree with them. He did however take a different tone, in the press conference. A little pr work? I think so

I agree Nelmo but the comment I heard wasn't that bad, he was asked the same question by a few different reporters what was the one of the reasons they lost and he said protection, he wasn't even quick to respond and before he said it he stated that he wants to be a good teammate and doesn't like to point fingers. The protection WAS a problem but so was Manning and his accuracy along with WR's running wrong routes. You could sit here all day and point out who's fault it was but I wont focus on who did bad on the Colts but who did great on the Steelers because they came into this game as a huge underdog and owned the Colts. Some may say it wasn't a beatdown by Pittsburgh but I will because the refs were horrible in that game and missed at least 6 easy and blatant calls.

Yes......at least 6 calls but maybe more. Thats the reason the NFL made it public about the interception. Something they rarely do, but had to this time because the calls were so blatant.

Those refs are lucky Pittsburgh pulled that one out, that game should have had a completely different score. I was watching ESPN and they mentioned that refs get graded on their performance and the refs witht he highest grades referee the playoffs and Superbowl.

My grade: F- Evil or Very Mad

When does his contract expire? Might see him wearing new colors if he keeps that talk up.

Manning shouldn't have made those comments, but I guarentee he won't leave the Colts. They'll franchise him. He just couldn't handle the 05-06 STEEL CURTAIN.

PITTSBURGH'S GOIN TO THE SUPER BOWL! Very Happy
