OK, since my teams are high 9* i would like to know from all you 10* owners whether you have turned 10* by accident or have tried to get to 10* and have trained your schedule to do some weakness training and everything to get to 10*. also, if you tried to get to 10*, any tips?

Every new team I start training is devoted to obtaining 10* right from the very first time I train them at 1*, so basically I have a flexible but schedule for four-six months. (Never weakness trained though)

In the past when I didn't really know what I was doing, I've turned 10* by accident... back when it was easier though. Surprised

basically if you really think about it , a lot of trainers don't pay attention to the catcher , 1st baseman , and their pitcher for defensive skills , I actually started to train them a few months ago in defensive skills and some of them are my OFers now , so to make a long story short , just train your 1st baseman , catcher , and pitchers more in defensive skills

yeah, but in my opinion winning is more important than obtaining 10*... it would be awesome though, so we'll see

Yeah, Ive never made it but I know how. You don't make 10 star by accident, but just a tip.. 10 star is bad and Ill tell you why. To be 10 stars your pitcher must be 9+ defense overall (totally unnecesary skill for pitcher) 9 star offense as pitcher as well (helpful but thats not all)

Then, you must train EVERYONE to be totally balanced as high defense and offense and running skills. That means your catcher will have high catching and throwing skill (not neccesary).

Point is the TP you'd be using to get there will harm your team. I tried to get to 10 stars then quit because I dropped a league. Now, I finished 15-3 last season and this season Im 6-1 and quickly going through the leagues because I "trained to win" My catcher cant play a lick of defense but he hits the snot out of the ball. My pitcher is always maxed out in pitching, and has NO defense but some offense ( I have 2 pitcher rotation to keep their offense and pitching up ) Basically I have trained my players at the skills they need to play their position and its working like a charm.

Lets put it this way, theres a reason why a 1st basemen isnt extremly fast and can jump out of the building. If he was he'd be in the outfield. A firstbasemen is most valueable as a power hitter. Its nice to give him catching skills as well. Im sure you know 90% of what Ive just said (at least) and the other 10% I sprinkled my opinion.

But like I said.. I tried to get to 10 stars I had tons of scouting report tickets and I eventually got my whole time to 9 star+ offense and defense+ including pitching.. but I was getting my behind whooped in the proleagues.. now Im training as "a good trainer would" and I feel unstoppable... last 2 seasons my combined record thus far is 21-4.. Before I "didnt advance, then got knocked out the season after." Trust me you don't want to do this to your team.. knock them out for a month in the PL's.. I also revamped my pitching staff so thats part of it too. My advice is if you ABSOLUTLY MUST do this. Train a pitcher, first baseman, and catcher on the bench... once they are all 9 high 9 star players flip them into position (then train the rest in balance) and you may just hit 10 stars.. the probluem is this also will negativly effect your team and I believe its not worth it.

I do agree with some of what you say, but some I don't.

Everybody on your team needs to be fast. Faster around the bases, more extra base hits and extra runs scored.

Everybody but I'd say the pitcher needs catch.

Throw is a different story though. Your 1st, P, and C do not need to have much throwing capabilities.

After today, 2 months and 17 days later since I've started smallball, I just reached 10*. I don't know if this is unusual but I'm quite proud of my accomplishment. My pitchers are rarely trained in anything but pitching so I was quite surprised that I made it to 10*. I'm currently in PL6 and will keep you up to date on my progress at 10* compared to 9*. I have consistently moved up in PL's since I started and have yet to move down a league. You may be interested to see my results, then again you may not be.
Originally I had a post in which someone gave me advice that I needed to train everyone in pitching to make it to 10*. This was not the case, so I do agree with your post above on how to make it this far. For anyone who was involved in that post, It can be done without training the others on your team in pitching. Don't waste your time on it. And if SOI is right, I will work on getting back to 9* to be more successful. We'll just have to wait and see the results.

I just make sure their abilities are adaquate enough to field at 1st or catcher...

as for my pitchers, they have ok throw, almost no catch, but strangely enough, my pitchers are the 2 best hitters on my team

I will give my 2 cents......

First off..........go look at every team page of the teams that are in PL 1 and see if you see the spinning thingy.WOW.......what do you know! they all have them Rolling Eyes
Then go team by team and check PL 2......if you find 5 out of the 50 that doesnt have a 10* badge........let us know. You know what....make it 4 teams. LOL

Second........ My team hits 10* all the time because of batting, NOT defense. The community team I am on are 10* because of guess what...............batting. So dont let these guys tell you that 10* isnt good. Let them come play with the 10* teams in 1st and 2nd league and then they can say that.

I agree with Nelmo. Nobody outside of my pitcher hits less than 450 ft (max distance hits). So there's no denying that fact Exclamation

I don't know, while I agree that 10* is a good thing ... I have had many teams to a high 9 or 10* status. Three of them are usually between PL2 and PL3 (two of which have been to PL1). Neither of the teams that have been to PL1 have ever been 10* (9965 and 221216), but usually are a good bet to stay in PL2. The team that hits 10* (138800) struggles to get out of PL3. My other 10* team, 404720, could never get out of PL4 (of course I blame that on me, not them). Maybe its the way I train, cause I do train each team differently.

My point is, I have never trained for stars, I always train to win. I might have players who are 10* offensively, but 8* defensively and vise versa. But, IMHO, as long as everyone is in the right place, and you have your best lineup in, I think you can have a team that can achieve results - if not stars.

I agree..........and having a 10* team doesnt garantee success. Every team is diferent, and while some play well at 10*, others dont. I was just pointing out the fact about the myth that 10* teams are at that star level because of training catch........or training things they dont need. The fact is that a team that can hold a little defense, and have way above average bats can get to 10* and be awesome. Most of the community teams have proven that, especially PvT's teams. One team I retired a while ago was all 10* batters and didnt have not one 10* defensive player on the team, yet was in 1st league when I retired them. Its not a bad thing to be 10* if the stars are because of batting. Some teams will hit that star level , but because of defensive skills being high, or they have a balanced team.

10 star defensive players isnt the point.. you have to be 9+ stars in everything to get to 10 stars. Hence, a catcher with at least 9 star defense who could play just as well with 2 star defense and even better with that TP used toward his offense is the point. A catcher without ANY defense or pitcher without it will make it impossible to get to 10 stars (nearly) You'll need your catcher and pitcher both to have 9 star defense AT LEAST to have a chance, because they made 10 star harder to get.

First of all there are only 25 PL2 teams.. but thats interesting.. then I ask you why 90-95% of the teams up there are 9 stars, suprise suprise? No.. I dont think you understand what Im saying. All players need HIGH offense... maybe not pitcher always.. however some positions don't NEED ANY defense.. and to make it to 10 stars you'll need to train up your catcher and pitcher in defense and offense. I still don't get your "spinning" 10 star point.. if it was good to be at 10 stars they would have maintained it.. unless you believe they don't know what they are doing, training for 10 stars is bad.. randomly reaching it isnt.

Wait when do catchers field? I must of missed something Smile. <-(in small ball) 1st base yes, you'll need some. Pitcher.. no you need none really.

You forgot to put your team ID =/ Every team is different, my best teams genetics arent ideal for 10 stars however they are doing great in PL ... last season 15-3 this season 9-1 and Ill be in PL4 next season. And hopefully keep advancing after that I found a training method thats working and Im going with it. (+ found where players SHOULD play and bat in the line up + best pitchers) I pretty much know the team inside out and I really feel the difference in the results, and I dont plan on training for anything more than winning games, if somehow I hit 10 stars going through the training my team needs great, weakness training isnt needed.

And my post was for people who could read it Razz

Im simply saying.. and Id like to hear someones opinion otherwise... that having a HIGH catch skilled pitcher is probably a misallocation of training potential. Thats all Im saying, same thing with the catcher.

Remember I never said "reaching" 10 stars is a bad thing, I said TRAINING to become 10 stars is. Ive been training without missing a day for almost a year on 491504 and they havent hit 10 stars but are having success..

Also people must realize my team played horrible when I tried to reach 10 stars.. their offense wasnt high (as it is now) it was just alright, as well as the defense.. When I tried to reach 10 stars I dropped a league and said enogh is enogh and now my team is playing COMPLETLY different and night and day much better.. so you must realize where Im coming from having had bad experience with "trying to become 10 stars" as opposed to training to win.

10 stars in just 3 months.. I find that pretty darn impressive.. I swear.. my team is just set up in a way where I can use a million scouting tickets (over 50) and get everyone 9 star plus in EVERYTHING and they just won't ever reach 10 stars.. unless I go all out but it somehow effects my proleague performance.

Anyway I decided to count it out, 7 teams of the 25 have never reached 10 stars (pl2) and only 5 are 10 stars out of 25.. not that it matters.

Sorry, Automatics #523427. And no I don't try to just train for 10*. The team is solid all the way around. SOI, I agree with your philosophy on 1st base, catcher, and pitcher not needing to be trained to 10* in catching and throwing. But I was getting maxed in the other areas so I thought I'd experiment and train them there and low and behold 10*. I went 16-2 in PL9, 18-0 in PL8, 13-5 in PL7 and know that I will probably struggle in PL6 but I had a goal to make it to 10*. Now I'm just curious to see if being 10* will hurt me. If I don't succeed to PL5, I will post it and give your philosophy a little more credibility.

Edit: Sorry Oaf, I didn't see the link to my team!

No, that's not all you're saying. For instance, you're also saying...

Trust me, each of these statements is completely wrong. Not even one of these things is "required" to be a 10* team.

And since you asked, no, I don't think that having a HIGH catch skilled pitcher is _always_ a misallocation of TP. I can think of two reasons immediately, and I'm sure there are more. I leave it up to you to figure out when it's useful. But based on your posts, it seems like you're going to have to take off the blinders, think outside the box, and stop playing this game so conventionally. As you know, this isn't baseball, it's SmallBall, and the two games are only loosely connected. Smile

Just to be fair though, almost every team in PL1 and PL2 is an old-timer team that existed back in the day when all you had to do was blink your eyes three times and your team was 10*.

Second........ My team hits 10* all the time because of batting, NOT defense. The community team I am on are 10* because of guess what...............batting. So dont let these guys tell you that 10* isnt good. Let them come play with the 10* teams in 1st and 2nd league and then they can say that.

BTW..........I will give you a 700 team if you can name 7 teams in pl 2 that have not reached 10*, since you posted you seen 7 teams Rolling Eyes Also.......you ever think maybe you are doing good NOW because you did try and balance your team first, before batting more.

You have a decent season in PL 6 and PL 5 and now you have the game figured out. Rolling Eyes The only reason I posted was because you started out by saying 10* is bad, and thats completely wrong. You also said other things that are wrong that DE already posted about. But then again...what does he know. If new players dont want to listen to me, at least listen to DE as nobody has had more success in smallball history than DE.
The reason I used the spinning thingy was only to give the newer players a chance to see that trying to get a balanced team, and a high star team is a good start. There are other things like managing your team and knowing your players, that will come later on as you start knowing your teams. Maintaining a 10* all the time and being a good team is very hard to do because of skill loss, and has nothing to do with what you posted. Since you have to bat more, your defense goes down and its hard to maintain. That doesnt mean you cant try to get there first, and with the way you posted it sounded like your telling these new players to dont bother training pitchers in defense because its a waste. I'll tell you something......every player is different and some play and bat better when training in defense. I have a pitcher that plays great right after run, and believe it or not, I once had a pitcher that was a big bat threat after training catch.........you may ask why? Because it would balance him out and make his mood better. Better mood, better player. I agree with some of what you say.........but for some reason, you seem to never want to be wrong. You got a rude awakening coming when slump times come

Would I rather have a great 9* team or a average 10* team? For sure I would take the 9* team dont get me wrong. But telling people not to train defense in certain positions is wrong.

With that said...........I wish I wouldnt ever have to post my opinion in any post about training that you have a input in, as your never wrong. But I think I owe it to the ones that really listen to you to give them another option.

Just to be fair though, almost every team in PL1 and PL2 is an old-timer team that existed back in the day when all you had to do was blink your eyes three times and your team was 10*.

DE..........your like E.F. Hutton to me.......when you talk I listen, being your the trainer of the greatest team ever in smallball. But every team thats in first, will hit 10* at least 3 to 4 times during the season, every season with the exception of Das's teams. The teams in PL 2 I know pretty good because I have been living there for a long time, and can also name more than half that will all hit 10* a few times during every season. TCM. LA, Victoria capitals, Unseen, 11 GT&B, Regulators, Canadian Bacon, Streetz 101, all three of smiths teams, andHMS Surprize PvT, will all hit 10* this season a few times.

Well whatever, we'll see how I keep doing. Im 11-2 now in the 5th league... Ill be in 4th next year.. I believe Ill be good enogh to be in 3rd the season after that based on how easy the 5th league has been. So we'll see what level I get to at the end of all this. Im not going to get mad over this, I havent proved anything yet. but Im hopeful I can turn that around.

Ill try and shup up until I have proven something more.. realize Im not saying "my team is great" Im saying "look at the difference of results I had in this method rather than that"

Secondly I didnt see you accomplishing anything either with your team dedicated to a scremo band, and a big 6'7 stiff of a defensemen in New york . But anyway I have nothing against you and I acctually like your posts so I cant be mad.

Secondly OMH with his typical anti-SOI attitude makes it a point to list a bunch of people who posted AFTER I did as people I said I thought didnt know what they were talking about. w/e Im never going to win in this so Im not gonna post about it again (this was an edit made after the post below)

Utterly shocking Dan. I am utterly shocked. Little does he know the game actually BEGINS in PL4. But at least he realizes he hasn't proved anything. Illiad baby 4-2. Smile Baby steps, baby steps.

Congrats Stupid, you are almost ignorant now. Maybe you will see the sunshine after all, but I have faith in your inability to keep your mouth shut and LISTEN to those that actually have done something.

When Nelmo bashes on you, you are a real idiot. Congrats

He's 6'9" and plays for the Ottawa Senators - Zdeno Chara.

Anyways - 2 1/2 years ago whenever SmallBall FootBall was released I was always one of the top trainers (never the best and probably won't be)... of course, you weren't around then, it may not seem like much but FB was much more popular since teams were free - many owners had 3-4 teams. I had 6 of the first 13 9* football teams and won a PL1 championship with 120132 (actually tied and lost the tie-breaker, but I consider it a win Wink). I always had teams in PL3 and PL2 and started the very first FB League (*Elite* League).. I then moved that league to start the "FA Premier League" which has pioneered every league that you now see for FB.. I always loved being a leader and keeping things in order within those leagues and took a lot of pride in what I was able to do. Tim's Dodgers and I then built up the Italian Serie and had that very successful for a few seasons until FB lost its popularity. So yeah, it's hurtful to say that I haven't accomplished anything. I'm not saying that there wouldn't be any SmallBall FB Leagues, but I was the first one to do anything about getting some set up, and you can't take that away from me.

I've never been a BaseBall trainer and now that I've been more dedicated to it lately I'm almost sure I should stick to FootBall, but I play this game for fun now - I have no desire to even make it to the 6th PL, I wouldn't really get any satisfaction out of it.

Nope DEE DEE DEE

You are not qualified to give anyone advice. SO QUIT DOING IT. You inhibit the real new people here that are actually trying to learn something.

That is the point, I don't hate you I loath you. So cut, copy and paste it from my post so you don't spell it incorrectly and type it into dictionary.com. I gave you directions to figure out what it means stupid this should be simple even for you. But I doubt it.

You think your clever with your copy pasting of what I ACTUALLY said into small 2 word sections. Kinda when god made your D*** and instead of giving you the full thing he cut it down to a smaller version. Your a lot like god in some ways.. I guess I should worship you now huh? Since you think you've accomplished so god damn much you can tell people when to talk. Thats for your wife/girlfriend to do, not you just listen real good what she says because your wearing that dress real pretty.

You prance around here like your a real hero or something, and I shouldn't give my opinion in a discussion unless God (OMH) says so. I dont give a **** what you think. My advice to you is to lick on the nuts and suck the **** and do your job like your supposed to trick.

I need to go to school. What is a resemblence, oh wait O' Capitan of Intellegence, you must have meant resemblance. Like everyone of your posts I need the idiot hand book to figure out what you are trying to say.

The SOI bashing, you bring it on yourself. I can see you sitting there in your PJs all mad, huffing and puffing past your bedtime and still can't find the 3 cents to buy a clue. Enjoy it moron, you are going nowhere in life, embrace it and quit being so bitter in the world. You are stupid, it is okay there is a fastfood job out there waiting for you somewhere.

Secondly.. my mom? What? Dog? Why are you associating the names of my teams with my mom and myself? Are you serious?

You have got to be the most moronic person in the world. I mean, I can't even comprehend someone with the tiniest bit of common sense make half the comments you make. Shut up already, everyone's tired of seeing your posts.

I rest my case. After that 9 year temper tantrum I rest my case. I do not come here looking for trouble, I was here long before you with zero trouble. It is clear you are being yourself, the whole point why I call you STUPID, because you just can't figure it out. The basic things in life are just to difficult for you to grasp. But you jack it up for people that come hear to learn, and that ticks me off. You rant and rave like you are a smallball wizard, and a know it all and you know absolutly nothing.

As for you ever graduating college, I have zero fear that you never will. You will never make it 20 year old idiot, they sort people like you out quick. After they take a year or two of your money of course. Wink

Hmm, nothing personal, but your college must really be terrible. I mean, a few typos and mispellings are fine -- but your inability to spell easily recognizable words and make them so deformed that no one has a chance to make them out is really astonishing and isn't saying much about your education Confused

Is Rowan all that bad? Do you even go to college? This isnt an essay, and while were on the subject. Find the typos jack butt. Where are all these mispelled words. Where do you go to college? I acctually doubt you do. While were at it why don't you post a picture of yourself up here so we can see how incredibly ugly you are. I would enjoy laughing at it. Your a loser, not funny, shut up. =D

Yeah go find the mispellings.

For the love of Pete, I was done. You just make it to easy, you are so stupid. You can't even spell misspell correctly. Thanks for making me laugh so hard I can hardly see straight. You are an absolute idiot, nothing you can say or do at this point will change that moron. You called all of us out, there you go. They are bolded for your amusement, I am not even going to go back to the 100 in the above posts. That isn't any of our opinion at this point, you really are just that stupid to say something like this.

mis·spell ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ms-spl)
tr.v. mis·spelled, or mis·spelt (-splt) mis·spell·ing, mis·spells
To spell incorrectly.

Just when I thought SOI was improving his reputation in here, he says this:

WTG, SOI. Applause Do you know how many respected SmallBallers are members at ACA? Rolling Eyes

I see many comments by SOI in this thread that amazed me, but this one stood out to me as incredibly stupid.

I consider myself to be an extremely tolerant person, but this will not be tolerated. I'm not a moron, and I am well aware what should be in that blank. Way over the line and inexcusable in my opinion.

Sorry trogdor. I'll try my best to keep your thread on topic by deleting posts after this that stray too far off of the original topic.
