I think it's a big victory. I hope that they don't get complacent though. Enforcement is still key. It'll be interesting if this ushers in a "clean" era and how it may (or may not) change the game. _________________

No its not more like it. How does baseball think it is cleaning up its sport by banning players for a paltry 50 games!!!
Banned for the whole season should be the first penalty AND club/ franchises allowed to sack players. This would clean up the cheats, after all what's worse, a bad record or no job? _________________ Small Wolves

Johnny, do you have any depth of knowledge on this issue? If you had any idea all the trouble they've gone through to get this far, you'd have much more of an appreciation for it.
The penalty is a deterrent. The deterrent is working. The players are getting off the 'roids, and that's what matters. It's not going to be a quick fix, because it's been such a recent problem. In 2005 there were huge strides forward, and watch, in 2006 there will be more.
BTW, you rip us for our poor "football" vocabluary, so I'm going to take a shot back. Players don't get sacked in America unless they're a quarterback with a poor offensive line. In baseball players are "released". |

very nice job my major league baseball. this will help out the steroid problem a lot. however, i think that all the major sports should adopt the steroid policy of the Olympics (2 year ban for first offense, lifetime for second). all in all, a big step in the right direction for major league baseball. _________________ Go Giants!!! |

Yes, i do have depth of knowledge and no it isn't trouble to get this far, if the olympic team has the same rules for baseball why can't baseball?
Why? because if the players from MLB were tested as stringently as olympic athletes how many do you think would fail? Please don't give me half truths please back up with facts. So far there are more facts than speculation. Huge strides have not been made in this sport and the players on the 'roids are not the problem, you need to delve into the drug issue a bit further i think to come back with drugs that are performance enhancing.
But my vocab has been found out NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should i have said fired instead? _________________ Small Wolves

Huge strides have not been made? What about Barry Bonds? I have no proof that he sat out to clean his body of steroids, but I think that's why he didn't play in 2005. Jason Giambi quit using them. Those are just a couple of players in the public eye. I bet there's more, so there is a difference being made.
I'm not going to delve into this too far, simply because I ddon't have the time at the moment, but I don't understand why you'd say players 'roids is not the problem.
and know I made the vocab comment only because you've done the same regarding "football". |

If you're going to make comments, don't say you don't have the time to get into it. It shows you have a yellow streak and can't be bothered to back up your argument.
The reason i mentioned 'roids are not the problem is because there are amny banned substances and 'roids are not the biggest problem in baseball to be used. Go away and read up on drug taking and when you come back informed on drug use in sport then you can share opinions.

First of all, I find it blantantly rude for you to demand I give an in depth analysis that involves research and reading into drugs in sports, especially considering that you haven't given any specifics yourself. I posted a topic about the new penalties in MLB. Using the Olympics as your comparison is setting a very high standard. The Olympics are known for being the strictest drug testing organization in the world. A gold medal was once taken from a snowboarder for inhaling second hand smoke. Despite these strict regulations, baseball is making every effort to catch up.
I didn't avoid getting in depth the other day because of a "yellow streak". I was in a hurry to get to a job interview, and still I gave a good quick example of a couple of players that had changed their performance enhancing drug habits. Baseball made an example out of several players last season (remember Rafael Palmerio?). I haven't heard you mention one player's name, which is why I questioned your knowledge on the issue.
You want talk about other performance enhancing drugs; why don't you tell me which drugs you're talking about? I can say that after Mark McGwire was found with "Andro", baseball made that substance illegal. I don't know what other drugs you're talking about. Although I don't know all the drugs that are being tested for, I do know that MLB's testing program includes many drugs, and not just steroids. You ask me for more information, you ask me to "go away and read up", and you haven't given any specifics. I have. |
