Players positioning |
|
|
I know every player on a team has his best position to play, according to how well he might throw or catch , or run, but i was thinking about this test: How about I take my first baseman ( who throws maybe 140ft and low on the catch list) and put him on the bench and work up his defensive skills ( while maintaing his offensive ones). So after awhile , he might be as good as a defensive player as your ss or LFer. Now my question: if he does have equal skills as your ss , could he play the position as well , I know his skills would drop faster( thats why he is at 1st base), but ya think for a few games he could fill the spot as well as your regular ss? _________________ It is difficult to say what is impossible , for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

He wont "play the position" any worse then your normal SS does, unless his throw/catch ratings, at that time, are worse. Given equal levels in throw/catch (and run, depending on the position) at that very moment, no one player will do "better" at another position then a different player. _________________

Ok so what your saying is I have a schedule where everyone trains differently in the skills, I should look at my sort list more and adjust my positions accordingly ? _________________ It is difficult to say what is impossible , for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

I think most people adjust their lineups every few days.. based on their player's current skills.. since they lose and gain skill so often, their positions could change after each training session.. least I think so.. _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

Indeed. With the exception of my pitchers, I'll adjust my lineup (defense and order) accordingly. Sometimes the changes after a given session isn't drastic. But it's always a good idea to not get tied down that Biff is your SS, CF, or whatever. "Be flexible" is great SmallBall advice in my opinion. _________________

Yeah,, I have to change the entire left side of my field just about every time after I train in throwing.. to keep my best arms at 3rd, ss, and lf.. lol _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

I have said this before and I still stick with it.
I think, in my opinion, that your players do have true postions just like your pitcher.
Like RF should have a strong arm be very fast and catch well because when you get to 9* you will play a lot of lefty teams. _________________

ok, so what if player 1, sorts to the very top of the list in throwing one day.. and 3 or 4 days later (after training everyone in throwing) that same player is 5th or 6th on the list?
I wouldnt want him in one of the distant areas, _________________ http://sbdevils.com/forum/ and http://smallball.info The only forums you'll ever need. |

Ultimately in SmallBall, each owner employs whatever strategy (s)he likes. As I have said, I like to remain flexible. With the excpetion of pitchers because I don't train non-pitchers in pitching. But some people like to have a "starting lineup." It's all preference. Whatever you should employ whatever works for you. _________________

Except for Pither, no player I have ever trained has an exact position. They have skills that qualify them for several positions.
LF-RF, SS-2B, 3B-1B-C, SS-CF are interchangeable.
The trick is knowing how little TP you have to use to keep defense good so you can use more of it on offense. So if a player needs a lot of TP to stay 5th on the catch list and you have him playing 2B then you are not positioned correctly and wasting TP.
With today's teams-heavy on the lefties-your best gloves and arms need to be on the right side. But scout your away games. If a
righty team is next, you have to switch best to the leftside.
And it is not an exact science. Trying to find the right combination everyday is what drives us all. (mostly we are driven insane) _________________ Waiting for a good quote |
