Thrashers in the Southeast. I'll be happy just to make the playoffs. I don't have Cup hopes just yet.

Unfortunately we lost Heatley, but made some great moves to further strengthen the team. If we don't get Kovalchuk signed though, we're screwed. They better get that deal done, or he's going to stay in Russia and play. Sad

OT shootouts are going to be the best thing to happen to this sport in a long time. I can't wait! Very Happy

i sooooo agree with you beaner

and the bruins will be making a deep run into the stanley cup playoffs.
with a talented young goalie (Raycroft), some excellent defensemen (Leetch, etc) and a couple star forwards (Thornton, etc), they'll be tough to beat

Eastern Conference:

Atlantic: Philadelphia
Northeast: Toronto
SouthEast: Tough division to call this one, Atlanta and TB look good.

Western Conference:

Central: Nashville (good off-season signings to shock them to titile)
Northwest: Edmonton
Pacific: LA

Stanley Cup finals: Philadelphia - LA. LA to shock win.

Their pickup of Bondra was awesome. I don't get why he's signing for the league minimum. He's gonna benefit from the new rules. Even if he is 37...

Eastern

Atlantic - Philly - will be interesting to see how their "bigger is better" thing works out, but it will at least win them their division

Northeast - Ottawa - the Heatley deal will pay off in a big way. And look out for a healthy Hasek.

Southeast - Tampa Bay - a semi-happy Martin St. Louis, a VERY happy Lecavalier and a core that just won the cup? to the bank, baby!

Western

Central - Nashville - Kariya pickup was brilliant. He shoulda been with the 'Nucks, dammit! Anyways, this looks to be a good young team and with Detroit so scrambled, they should take it.

Northwest - Vancouver - this is gonna be a TIGHT division and I'm only taking the 'Nucks because I'm a big homer. Look for Edmonton and Calgary to be right up there with Vancouver as Colorado is getting OLD.

Pacific - Anaheim - a young, hungry team that made probably the biggest steal of the free agent market in Neidermayer. Brian Burke runs a tight ship and this will be a team to watch out for.

Of course, none of this will come true. With the NHL the way it's "supposed" to be changing, there will be A LOT of surprises. I just really hope that the referees get the green light to keep calling any and all obstruction.

Can't wait! Surprised

Eastern Conference
Atlantic: Philadelphia. If Forsberg is healthy then he can lead the team to a division title. Pitts has a great chance too with all their new faces. A old and injured Philly could lead the Penguins to the division title.

Northeast: Ottawa. The addition of Heatley is mind-blowing. Spezza ripped it up in the AHL last season. No other team will be close.

Southeast: Tampa Bay. A weak division still I think. Florida will be another strong team but not at the same level as Tampa.

Conference winner: Ottawa. If Hasek is playing like he can and Spezza and Heatley are playing like they can...combined with Alfredsson and the boys Chara and Reddon...These guys are all in their prime (except Hasek) and should take the conference title.

Western Conference
Central: St. Louis. I look at the teams and think that they all suck. Nashville is perhaps the most improved. Detroit's lost a lot. St. Louis lost both Pronger and MacInnis...I really don't know on this one...it's a crap shoot.

Northwest: Calgary. Conference champions from 2004, and they have gotten better. While the Canucks stayed the same (including stinky Cloutier), Colorado lost a lot, Minnesota did nothing, and Edmonton didn't do enough - Calgary has added a lot to their team.

Pacific: Los Angeles. LA brought in Roenick and Demitra, while getting rid of injury prone Allison. San Jose isn't doing much this off season. Anaheim picked up Niedermayer and Selanne so they may be competing once again too.

Conference winner: Calgary. Their defence is awesome. Their goaltending is awesome and with Iginla - Amonte scoring...should be a good team this year.

Cup Winner: Calgary. Goaltending battle between Kipper and Hasek. Kipper wins MVP.

Darkhorse East: Pittsburgh
Darkhorse West: Anaheim

I can understand why no one would be looking for much from the Thrashers in the Southeast, since they have never done anything but suck. I think a lot of people are going to be caught off guard by the run they give Tampa Bay this year.

I doubt they will even challenge Tampa. While scoring goals shouldn't be too much of an issue, especially if Ilya signs - their defense is brutal. They have a couple of great young defenseman in Coburn and Valabik, but neither will likely be in the roster for the year. Dunham and Hurme is a good upgrade in net, but just not enough to cover the gap on defense.

Well I already have my tickets to the Oct. 20th game against Tampa Bay. I'm very anxious to see how that game goes. My expectations may outweight the result, but I still say they will challenge.

the rule changes and the new CBA means the old powerhouse teams aren't going to control the league like they used to. i honestly have no idea who will win out but i'm excited about the new season.

pittsburgh and boston will be tough teams. the kings will be good in the west. i think the flyers and maple leafs will suffer the most.

for me, an islanders fan living in rangers country, all i want is the isles to beat the blueshirts in the garden. i'll be there ...

Naw, the Wild aren't going anywhere. The only reason they (the North Stars) moved in the first place was because the stadium was crap and there wasn't talk about a new one.

They're an interesting team. They added a lot of size, which if the new rules really turn out to do the expected, could totally hurt them. But of course, they also added Peter Forsberg. If he can stay healthy, watch out.
