I got you beat by a long shot.
I used to take the street car down to 42nd& Avalon and watch the minor
league Angels play.
The current Angels played there first, before moving to Dodger Stadium.
YOu could see the houses across the street on theother side of the left field wall.

The only two players I remember from back then were Steve Bilko, and
Albie Pearson,the little guy.
Bilko was a local hero, a slugger on the minor league team, but was never good enough for the majors. The major Angels gave him 1st base
for a couple of years, just cuz he was so well loved here. You won't see that anymore.
Albie was like 5'5", and not a bad player at all, played for the Washington
Senators for awhile, geez I"m old.
The minor team was a Cub farmclub at the time.

Lets see who else you missed, my memory is going fast.

Bo Belinsky
Dean Chance
Bob Rodgers
Pfffffffft. Memory gone, goodbye

Angels Have Giants Where They Want Them
By THE NEW YORK TIMES

Good news for Anaheim: The team trailing 3 games to 2 on the World Series often rallies to win the Series — if it is playing Games 6 and 7 at home. How often does it happen? Six of the last seven times it could have happened, it did.

1982 Cardinals win Games 6 and 7 in St. Louis to beat Milwaukee.

1985 Royals win Games 6 and 7 in Kansas City to beat St. Louis.

1986 Mets win Games 6 and 7 in New York to beat Boston.

1987 Twins win Games 6 and 7 in Minneapolis to beat St. Louis.

1991 Twins win Games 6 and 7 in Minneapolis to beat Atlanta.

1992 Braves lose Game 6 in Atlanta; Toronto wins Series.

"It figures the Braves are the exception. Smile "

Fond farewell?: Kent's big night puts Giants on brink of title

GREG BEACHAM, AP Sports Writer Friday, October 25, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(10-25) 00:34 PDT SAN FRANCISCO (AP) --

Jeff Kent never stops to admire his homers.

He made no exception for the two home runs that propelled the Giants to the brink of a World Series championship in perhaps his last home game in San Francisco.

Kent drove in four runs and scored four times in Game 5 on Thursday night, breaking open a tense contest by emphatically snapping the 3-for-16 slump in which he began the game.

Kent, a free agent after the season, scored four times to tie a record for a Series game. San Francisco beat Anaheim 16-4, moving within one victory of the franchise's first title since 1954.

While leaving the field at Pacific Bell Park, Kent allowed himself a moment to reflect on the biggest game of his career in San Francisco -- but only a moment.

"There might be a little bit of sadness because it might be my last game here, but I'm thinking beyond that," said Kent, who also doubled. "I have enough respect for this Series and enough respect for the Angels to know that this doesn't mean squat. The next two games are going to be the biggest games we've ever played."

Kent made only one concession to the enormity of the moment: He cracked a smile after his second homer put the Giants well ahead.

For the first time in his first World Series, Kent made a big contribution to the Giants' attack. Finally excelling on the stage he waited 11 major league seasons to reach, Kent had the first two-homer game in the World Series by a Giants player since Benny Kauff in Game 4 of the 1917 Series against the White Sox.

It was quite a last hurrah. Kent -- the NL MVP in 2000 -- isn't expected to return to San Francisco unless the expected big-money offers don't materialize. Manager Dusty Baker is also a good bet to leave the Giants this winter.

"I don't think there's a better way we could potentially end our careers here, if it is that," Kent said.

The Giants say they can't afford what Kent will probably command, and Kent has criticized Pac Bell for its unfriendliness to hitters. That'll be a difficult argument to accept after what Kent did in the biggest game in the park's three-year history.

"You just knew he was going to bust out," San Francisco right-hander Jason Schmidt said. "It was just a matter of time. You can't keep a guy like him down. He knew what the stakes were tonight."

Kent hit .188 in the first four games of the Series, striking out five times and often looking terrible while doing so -- but he carried his own weight in Game 5.

In the first inning, he drew a walk and scored on Santiago's sacrifice fly. In the second, Kent doubled to right and scored on Santiago's single.

With the Giants clinging to a 6-4 lead in the sixth, Kent launched a pitch from reliever Ben Weber into left field, where a San Francisco fan gloved it cleanly in the front row of the bleachers.

One inning later, Kent hit Scot Shields' seventh pitch high and deep into the bank of temporary press seating in left field -- a fitting destination for a ball hit by Kent, who has a notoriously short temper with the media. Reporters scattered as the ball landed.

Coming around first base, Kent cracked a smile. He had the 46th multihomer game in World Series history.

Kent even fielded the final grounder of the game, casually throwing to first base moments before fireworks exploded.

Two years ago, before the Giants lost a division series to the Mets, Kent said he might retire immediately if he ever won a ring. Now that the Giants are nine innings away, he tried to keep his mind on the near future, not the big picture.

"The World Series is bigger and better than anything that free agency could bring," Kent said. "You'd like to think you have many opportunities to get to the World Series, but as you get older, you start to wonder if it's ever going to happen to you.

"Maybe that makes this night even better."

Sorry to say but, the Angels got Jeff Kent hot! Now we (The Giants) are ready to kick some Anaheim Derriere! Angels think they got us, but they really don't. They can't keep hold of us! So, just letting ya know. Also just wanted to let everyone know a tid bit on Jeffy.

Barry doesn't require both legs. He can hop and hit and if for once the ball stays in the ball park then at least he greats and rbi if someones on base. If not well he can crawl to base.

That would be hard though

I couldn't care less which team won but at least Barry Bonds didn't win. That guy is just way too arrogant... Wink

Arrogant so what he can play baseball better than almost everyone plus why should he let the press in on his life personal or not. Anyway Giants should have won it before the 7th game but couldn't so it's there own fault
