Free DT Team for Rookies! |
|
|
I am posting this in this forum because it is for rookies only!
If you are new to this community you probably feel like you stumbled into a hailstorm of uncertainty, you probably already know about uncompensated Admins, lost forums and an AWOL commish. And are probably thinking what the hell is going on? Well my young Jedi. SB is much like baseball in that no matter what scandal, BS, or infighting, at its core baseball is beautiful. Needing nothing to sustain it the game will always carry on on its own. SB is a little different in that if the commish ever decides to pull the plug, well then it's over. But as long as this game keeps running on autopilot it will continue to be a great game. Yet even better than the game itself is the community of trainers in these and various other clan/trainer forums.
Talk about a great group of guys. Much like our very own families you have those you love, those you like, those you tolerate, those you hate but still deal with, and of course the occasional red headed stepchild...see oaf, nelmo. JK And you find yourself becoming attached to the players on your team as well as the posters in this forum.
Already people have started donating tickets as they start to prepare for the worst as if they were on a sinking ship and they are bailing stuff off of the boat. Others are donating from the kindness of their heart, and thats where I hope to come from.
Rookies, I have some extra DT teams that I will donate. The lucky rookie trainer(s) who can put together a good paragraph on why this community will not die anytime soon and what you plan to do to keep it alive will walk away with a DT team. And if you're new you will soon find out how much easier it is to train a contender using a DT than the standard ST. I will not decide who gets the DT teams, instead posters who are Pros and up will decide via this thread if they feel your essay is good enough to win a DT team.
Again, I'm not asking you to jump through hoops for a free DT team. Actually I am hoping to help along the future of this game as best I can (having no real control after all) by rewarding new blood who is looking to keep this community active.
Let the Posting begin _________________

GW is making either a poker forum with some SB Threads, or a general forum with both poker and sb as a main thing. One or the other.
The community will not die because of it.
And if not, we can all party at Commish's house. I'll buy the dew. |

MikeRo, when the game dies, this community will die. In fact, it is already half dead. I've been here only a short while (one month almost to the day) and I already look forward to seing posts from certain people that I've come to like. But several of those people are abandoning ship. Bailey and breakboy are the latest of my favs to throw in the towel. It is the game that binds us, even as the relationships grow in importance. The game is the conduit, the excuse, the lubricant that facilitates the interaction. Just like real baseball does in real life.
This doesn't mean that some of you might not migrate to another venue. Perhaps, GW's new poker site (if that is what it is). Hell, I'm a fair poker player, I might check it out. But it won't be this community. Perhaps if another similiar baseball game was found, it might be closer to what this is, but still, it will not be this. All things must pass and it looks like SB is about to.
I realize this little essay ain't gonna win the contest, since it refutes the premise, but I didn't write this for the DT team. Although a it is a very generous offer, I couldn't play any team I didn't bring up from scratch. _________________

Very well written, too bad you dont want a DT team. LOL
I believe SB will still be around, and this forum will be replaced by a number of other communities. I am not a doomsdayer of this game, maybe this forums but not the game, not yet anyway. SBD, TsT, and SB Stars among the many others will keep this group together..IMO Not to mention Noobs go to the chat on the homepage and I am sure many of us will troll that chat as well. As for not training a eam from scratch, I never said these were hight * teams, quite the contrary, low * with DT is a great opportunity for a Noob to make this team his own. And compete.
PS I own the Cienfuegos Elephants...needless to say I love your sig. We had a couple of good games against your Scorpions. _________________

Coooool. I have four teams as my sig shows, all the player's names are real life players in their correct positions. Unfortunatelly the Alacranes are the only ones I've had time to study and develop closely.
Hey run a contest for a Cent Park ticket and I'm there! Lol. _________________

Don't run from a great game! |
|
|
I don’t believe this community will die, so I’m not about to give up on it. If this forum closes down, we’ll just create a new one. The reason is because the community is based on a very sound game. To put it simply the game of smallball is just plain fun. Perhaps all you veterans who have been around so long have forgotten how fun the game can truly be. I actually have a few players on my team that I have grown quite attached to. I actually find myself rooting for them during a game! I know that sounds silly, and it’s just a game, but it’s a pretty damn good one! Please, all you folks that have enjoyed the game for so long, don’t spoil it for us rookies. I’m sick and tired of all these somber goodbye forever tear jerker letters about the end of smallball. Waaaaaah! We don’t need any phrophets of disaster telling us the ship is lost! Enjoy the game while you can, life is way to short. I will continue to train my team until the commissioner himself pulls the mouse from my cold dead hands! Donate the team to me. Why? Because I intend to use it, and to enjoy it!
That felt good to get off my chest. It’s always good to vent!

Thanks for the Team! |

| I just wanted to express my sincere thanks for your generous gift! My post had somewhat of a bitter taste to it. Let me post one last comment. It is the veterans in this community which help this game to thrive. Without the help of the more senior players like MikeRo72, I definitely wouldn’t have stuck around. Just check out any of the random questions posted by the newbs in this forum. There is always a veteran that's willing to help out, sometimes within minutes! The generosity and help of fellow players in this community it unrivaled. |

the one great and fantastic thing about this community is that people like yourself, oaf, just to name 2 are so helpful to the new guys, i dont know how many teams have been given to newbies such as myself, but i know that i have given up to 20 dt teams to new guys, and even gave a 10 lefty xxxx team to a new guy, the only regret about that one was that he only trained it for a month or so afterward.
when people are so giving, they are uatomatically great people and it is a shame with the distance that we never meet them in person, if not to just shake hands and say hi. but with the distance for me, i know that will never happen, hmmm, australia anyone
the help on these forums, especially when your dt stops working, i cant go back to that ST,noooooo..... is amazing
now whilst i hope that gave me the honour of being able to get a chance to win a free DT, i have to say that i too will be holding a competition soon for a few newbies, to give a couple of DT teams away as well...., so please dont consider me, its just my way of supporting this issue and community, and helping it grow
ps, well i bet that those noobs from a weeks back that were trying to scam everyone wish that they were still active, they didnt even think that this community could be like this, and to tell you the truth, whilst they were around constantly posting nonsense and trying to do trades with out a TA etc,,, that i certainly didnt feel like giving, i just didnt want them to get anything, _________________ BB . 55229 . 130295 . 13611 . 8358 . 856 (SBD Community)

Yup..I've been active with SB Baseball for only 3 months, but I have been a fan of SB for years now. As a matter of fact this is my team from way back in 2003:
http://216.93.177.24/go/on.goal.team?tid=7839
I've played SB since way back when footy was in its Beta Version. As a matter of fact if you look at the roster and count down 8 players you'll see where I get the "Ro" in MikeRo. I played it back then and fell in love, until I just didnt have time anymore. Then recently while looking for a Sim basketball game(for which there is no such thing) I remembered SB. And VIOLA!...here I am again. Just when your outta this game, it has a way of dragging you back in!
Not to mention, since I am an older SBer I know there are alot of trainers that are kids and can't afford to buy tickets, or maybe are too young to buy tickets. Since i have the means, I don't mind helping continue to build up something I have grown to love like SB as to assure that we keep this great game going.
Regards,
Mike
PS
Still have DT teams rooks! _________________

If we keep playing it will not die. Small Ball and Baseball in general are too strong of a force to be destroyed by lazy posers who found other ways to make money. As long as guys like MikeRo72 stick around there is hope for the future of this great game/community. I may have no control over the fait of my beloved Yankees but I do have control over my beloved Natural Born Killers and they have no plans to go quietly into the night. Everyone, keep training and keep playing as I will until the bitter end. |
