I want to play smallball |
|
|
| All right, for those of you who haven't noticed (which I'm sure is everyone) I haven't been training a team or playing games in a long long time. I was forced to quit because I couldn't do anything smallball related with any of my computers... Over the past year all of them have been formatted and such and I've tried it again on all of them and it still doesn't work. I really want to be able to play the game again but every time I try to actually play a game I get a "calculation failed" error. I can train fine but I honestly have no will to play if I'm just going to train and train and do nothing with my team. Any help with this would be nice. |

To the man who has always had my favorite avatar I say "Welcome back to the game".
You have no trouble with training but you can't play games? Are you looking for someone to initiate games for your team or are you just looking for an answer to your problem? Or both?
I really don't have an answer to the '"calculation error" that you are experiencing but if you need some help initiating games with your team until you rectify it, I would be happy to try and help. The java update seems to resolve most issues but I'm sure you've already tried that (Like Ucke said). Anyways, here to help on the non-technical issues for a little while if necessary. _________________

I did but maybe I didn't do it quite right? I know I installed Java but I wasn't exactly sure what the hell I was doing in the process.
Rowdy thanks for the warm welcome back and offer to play for me, but I actually want to be able to initiate my games on my own and play with and enjoy my team the way I used to be able to. Thanks a lot though I really appreciate the offer. |

well, the only reason I could think of this happening is because some file of the game got screwed up or moved from it's correct folder... as said before, you're a smart guy and I wouldn't want to offend you but did you try uninstalling and reinstalling? _________________ 484371 9*

GM, I had the same exact problem when I came back to SmallBall and I had to uninstall and reinstall java a couple of times before I got it to work. I also had to adjust the shortcut to something like start.jar or something like that. That part's explained in the SB homepage. Anyway, give it a shot. If it still doesn't work, stop by chat some evening and see if someone can help you with it. I'd love to see you come back. _________________

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything remotely smallball related... I can't get anything working. Every time I come back from the calculation failed error windows XP opens up an error report screen and smallball closes. One of my games apparently actually did initiate but I never got to see it or anything pertaining to it, it didn't even show up on the home page. It just said on the screen that I had a game in progress. |

The problem with game rendering has come up a number of times recently
I had the same problem myself after re-installing the latest version of smallball around 6 months ago..
tried uninstall/re-install, update Java etc all to no avail..
The only way I could initiate and watch games was to do the following..
Right click on the smallball shortcut, choose properties and change the "Target" to read
"C:\My Games\SmallBall\start.jar"
you should be able to play games normally, the only minor irritation is that when you exit DT,
smallball shuts down and you have to click on the shortcut to re-open it
Hope this works for you.. _________________

So that's why that happens... Thanks, I always wondered... _________________

I tried that but it just didn't work out for me. Basically everything is still the same as it was before. Thanks though. |

| I got the game to work... But now I can't use DT. I open it and it starts to load and then when the screen disappears to open the actual DT the actual DT doesn't open and nothing shows up. Then I have to re-open smallball. |

Well, congrats on getting the game to work. The fact that the DT doesn't work, is probably related to the way you fixed the original problem so if you state what you did, that could help a lot. I also believe that the DT's dissapearance is a known problem, so it is probably somewhere in this forum. I'll edit later if I find out... _________________ 484371 9*

Not sure if this will help or not.
I cant run the DT, while I have Yahoo messenger.
Its the only program that stops my DT from running. _________________

You didn't state what operating system you are running but this will fix it anyway.
Uninstall Smallball using the control panel in Windows. Then look in the drive you installed Smallball and delete any folders that are left. Download a fresh file from the Smallball home page with the java file in it. IF you are using XP you will need to search the forum and find the XP SMallball patch and install that also.
Hope this helps. _________________ 4623 DT 9* PL5 | 55444 DT 9* PL4 | 105130 DT 9* PL8 | 449262 DT 9* PL4 |886 DT 7* | 741 DT 7*

I am using XP...
I tried the uninstall and reinstall thing and all it did was stop games from working again.
To get them working I updated the java on the downloads page and then changed the path on it to start.jar and it started to work. I still can't to anything in the ways of DT though. |

The only thing I can think of concerning the DT is computer hardware related. What type of computer, video card, etc. are you using? _________________ 4623 DT 9* PL5 | 55444 DT 9* PL4 | 105130 DT 9* PL8 | 449262 DT 9* PL4 |886 DT 7* | 741 DT 7*

Maybe I should just stick to Get Tiffany?
Speedracer it's a laptop that I've had for a while now, I've always been able to use DT on it before but it just doesn't work anymore... I don't know the actual specs of it. |
