finding your pitchers... Subject description: is it absolutely necessary? |
|
|
| i have read peoples strategy's about "finding your pitchers" with DT. well i was already 7* by the time i learned about this and i was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to do this. i think my current pitcher is maxed out but he's only pitching like 105 at the most. i dont think he's my "real" pitcher. any advice? |

My advice is to find your true pitcher if you want to be successful. So put aside your dreams of getting into the PLs soon and find your pitcher. _________________ Cereal Gods The Red Corollas

First off if he is only 105 and he is maxed in pitching and throwing he is not your pitcher, this much is for sure.
Secondly, yes and no. It would be best to find your pitcher but you do not need to. With that said I'll try and explain in the quick way.
If you max a pitcher that is not your true pitcher in pitch and throw, every time you train you will need to use most or all of your TP to keep him maxed. This could become a problem later on. It is one I am facing being I never found my pitcher either. Sure, I made it through PL9 18-0 but that is nothing big, when you move higher the competition is harder, and now I am in the backed up position of trying to find my pitcher AND win games. It is better to find the true pitcher sooner then later.
If you find your true pitcher sooner, he is the pitcher that loses his pitch and throw ability VERY slowly and maxs back easy, you will be able to make him a more well rounded player and more helpful to your team. You won't be giving free outs each time through the batting order. Finding the true pitcher can only help and is worthwhile, even if it takes some time, if you ask me.
Hope that helps some. |

I would just create another team, with that team go through the finding the pitcher process. With your current team, continue with your current pitcher. As SB_Knights said, you can be successful without finding your pitcher. I have not found mine on two of my teams, however both the pitchers I have are around the same star levels as the others in all other skills with the use of scouting reports. This might be due to me training 2 times a day, and thus 1/2 the day is always spend on pitching, and the other half whatever the other players are doing for that day.
But to conclude, do whatever you want, its your team. _________________ 528648 Berea 8* and rising

I recommend finding your pitcher no matter what star you are. You can be successfull without finding your true pitcher, but you won't be winning PL1. The advantage to finding your true pitcher is that if he dosn't take too much TP to remax in pitch and throw then you can train him in other skills. It is an advantage to have your pitcher be able to hit too that way, like Knights said, there wont be a free out for the other team when he comes up to bat. On the flip side, if you don't find your true pitcher, then you may spend all of your TP remaxing and not be able to train in other skills.
Hope that helps. _________________

Let me put it this way in finding your pitchers:
Whenever I get a new team , whatever star rating they are , via trade or buying a new team , I will go through the process at maxing out ALL the players just so I know who the true pitchers are. _________________ It is difficult to say what is impossible , for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

Well.. if you want a good team it sure as HECK is... but the question is, is it possible to win a championship without one.. Ide say it would be hard. I remember someone said that there was one team that won a championship with the pitcher that started on the mound.. but Im guessing it was one of the "pitchers" on his team... basically yeah.. you sure better find your pitchers. _________________ Sphere of Influence - 491504

I do not subscribe to the concept of finding your "one true pitcher"...
Is that like finding your "one true love"?
Must be, since it's my experience that both concepts are myths.
Now, if you want to know whether you should determine which players have the qualities to be a good pitcher, that's a different story, and a one of several highly recommended procedures for building a championship team. Notice I didn't say "required". While there may be solid recommendations, NOTHING is required in SmallBall, there is no "right way" to do something in this game. The only hard and fast rule in SmallBall is that there are no (other) hard and fast rules in SmallBall.
IMO, forget star levels. Forget the Pro Leagues. No old-timer is going to care how quickly you've achieved 10*. Invest significant time to learn everything you can possibly find out about your 12 players and your team in general.
Then again, remember the rule. |

It depends on what you want...... I have 2 high # teams that I know will never get a pro league 1 badge so my goal is to get them to 3rd league so I never found the true pitcher { its tooo much work? } and I give both pitchers plenty of rest one day one pitches one day one rests and I find they always have plenty of TP { of course other players get robbed of rest} so the BOTTOM LINE IS:if you want a championship team FIND YOUR PITCHERS _________________

At the risk of sounding silly by re-posting what has already been said, I offer the following.
Trust your gut.
I agree with DarkElf, there isn't "the" way to win (I should hope not). The question is, do you need to switch pitchers? Do you want to switch pitchers? I do not suggest starting a new team just so you can find those pitchers when you've got 12 guys wanting your attention right now. (I also find it sad that many teams are ingored and/or forgotten because they were spawned looking for that "magical" team.) Find what you're comfortable with, if you want 1 pitcher, go with that. Two? Go with that. You are the owner and caregiver of your team, trust yourself to do what you think is best them.
Trust your gut. _________________

Agreed, maxing at 105 is pretty sad, but I'm skeptical that 105 is the "true" max for any player.
Then again, I've only had three teams in my "SmallBall career", so I have less experience than many others here, but I've put all 36 of my players through extensive pitch training, and all of them maxed at exactly the same pitch skill level and MPH (but I held their throwing skill for all players at a constant, which makes a difference)... |

I tried something not to long ago on a team that I will share.
I was starting a 1* team with someone else training half the players. I first wanted to get the pitchers and just used 4 pitch QT's in a row to start the team before we each got 6 players. After using the 4 QTs on 4 full pies, I opened trainer and what I saw I couldnt believe. I also had trained lots of teams in the past and always........before throw training, the max would be 105. Yet with the pitch QTs..........I had one player at 114-117........two at 112, and a few more at 110. That was pure pitch skill.........no throw at all. Things do change........always have. Thats why I still dont have a clue as to most things, and never will completely. |

last week, i tried finding my true pitcher out of three good prospects, so I didn't train them in pitch, only power, contact, and throwing. And to my suprise, Insted of finding one good pitcher, I found three good hitters. _________________ Devastators 514243 9* 10.2 Honor
