SELIG DECLARES WORLD SERIES A TIE
Giants, Angels awarded co-championship

ANAHEIM -- Bud Selig, the much-maligned commissioner of baseball, issued a decree following tonight's World Series game between the San Francisco Giants and Anaheim Angels which stated that the deciding game between the teams would not be played, and that for the first time in history, the World Series would be declared a tie.

The announcement came during a post-game press conference to a stunned nation of baseball fans who had been anticipating the deciding game seven after a fantastic sixth game which saw the home team, Anaheim, rally from a five run deficit to defeat the visiting Giants 6-5, tying the Series at three wins each.

Incensed fans across the country began flooding Internet chat rooms and message boards with complains. Sports talk radio shows across the dial lambasted Selig for the decision. Yet the commissioner defended his decision in the post-game news conference, citing complaints of extreme exhaustion from the players on both sides.

"Nobody wanted to play more than I did, but I have to balance the concerns and hopes of the fans against the welfare of the players and the game. And every so often you get caught in a really difficult and sensitive situation. This is why they have a commissioner, because somebody has to make those decisions. Besides, we save $5 Million in expenses if there's no game seven."

"Extreme exhaustion? What a load of bulls--t," replied Anaheim 3rd baseman Troy Glaus, whose two-run double in the top of the 7th inning sparked the Anaheim rally which led to their victory Saturday night. "This makes absolutely no sense. The fans deserve a winner, and we fought too hard to have it end like this."

Similar sentiments were echoed in the San Francisco locker room. "I can't believe he's doing this," said manager Dusty Baker following the press conference. "It's incredible. There's no basis for it. It's like Selig doesn't even care anymore."

"Look, we can have the debate about how long the World Series should go, but we were past that..." Selig said. "I didn't have that option to sit and sort of pontificate about what they should have done. This way, San Francisco wins, Anaheim wins, everyone wins. No losers. And we save money. And isn't it all about the money? Like I've always monied, the money makes this money great. If it weren't for the money, there would be no money. Money, money, money."

Rumors have surfaced that both Giants owner Peter Magowan and the Disney Corporation, which owns the Angels, were notified in advance that the series would be declared a tie should game six be won by Anaheim. All parties were in agreement that there would be no game seven, but players insist they weren't notified.

"It's just awful," former commissioner Fay Vincent told ESPN Radio's Dan LeBatard on Saturday night. "The general consensus was that it was a disaster for baseball. The brand of baseball was hurt very badly... how can you not anticipate it going seven games? It's preposterous."

Buddie would never declare the series a tie, instead he would declare his Brewers the winner by default Wink
