This problem ever happen to anyone else before? |

It seems with both of my teams that the more I train, the worse they perform, both in games and on the * lists. Quick recap. My teams have been on the 9* lists for about two weeks, maybe a bit more. I got them both up to the top 35. I did this by "training for stars" for a couple of days, and then using a 48 hour pie on DT power training. All was well.
The next day I decided to do run training, as it had been 6 days since the last time. My teams got very good gains in run, averaging 8.5 skill points for a 24 hour pie. But my teams both fell like 30-40 spots on the 9* list, and they played like crap. I decided to build up some pie, so I didnt train that night. They only drop like 5 to 10 spots on the 9* list. They maintain more of their skill by not being trained? I was confused.
So last night, with a 48 hour pie, I again, "trained for stars". Trained weak areas for each specific players. Got really good gains for all players. I wake up this morning to find that both team are off the 9* list completely. More troubling, at least to me, was that at sometimes this afternoon they lost their ninth * altogether. Now I am really perplexed.
I accept the possibility that I screwed them up and trained improperly. I also understand that my teams dont exist in a vaccuum, and that other teams are improving and moving up the lists. But how do I lose my ninth* on both teams? Has anything like this ever happened before? Again it seems that when I train them, they go backwards. Any ideas?
BTW: All of my starters can hit 400' & over 70% contact. They all throw at least 170', and my pitcher is throwing at least 104 mph. Sorry for the ramble, but I am just really frustrated. Thanks for any help. |

It sounds confusing, and without knowing the inner workings of smallball, this is all a guess.
When you say you are training weak areas, I assume that you are training the players in the areas where they are lowest on the sort list. I don't like that strategy, personally. I especially hate it when the trainer says "so-and-so is the slowest player on the team, he needs to run more". That's BS. Maybe he's the slowest player on the team and everyone is running as fast as they can. More specific to your problem, maybe they can still get good gains, but have reached a threshold where they can't hold those gains for even a few hours. If this theory is right, you've basically flushed your TP down the...DT.
As for the run gains you got, those are pretty typical gains to stay where you are on the list, but time have changed a little since I really kept track of daily numbers. If you trained everyone in run, I would think that would have maintained your position with respect to your skill, but maybe not relative to other teams. As for me, I don't usually train run (48 hr pie) more than once every 2 weeks.
I find that cyclical, balanced training works the best and keeps my guys happy without deep analysis of what they gain, lose or even how they rank between themselves.
But, since I need to beat you this weekend, just keep training the way you've been training and then try to fix it Monday. _________________ JD
