I've run searches for this and found no clear cut answer so I'll give it a go here...

I've found my pitchers...now what? Do I run for a day, catch for a day, throw for a day? Do them all in one day? Do something offensive?

I just don't really know what to do next.

Any ideas along with explanations as to why I should train in the manner you suggest would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

By the way, I'm using DT

First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to hug the search button. It doesn't get nearly the love it should.

In response to your query, the reason why you can't find a clear cut answer is because there isn't a clear cut answer. Ultimately, you'll have to train each player in everything at one point (save for pitching for the non-pitchers of course). I suggest developing a schedule for each player. Devise it however you like. If you don't want to do that there are plenty of great trainers that just go by feel on that day. Just do whatever you feel will bring success to your team and, more importantly, your enjoyment of the game. Training is SmallBall so make it fun for you. Remember, there isn't a right or wrong way to train your team.

I know this isn't the answer you were really hoping for, but it's the best one out there I think.

Honestly, it's your team. You are the trainer, make the decisions. Most will agree the training everyday (half pie or full pie) in only one skill will give you better results. Since you just ended finding your pitchers, you should probably work on some defence at first. When you want to add some batting, I advise you only train in contact hitting for the first few batting sessions because you can't hit homeruns if you can't hit it at all...As you progress in the game and become 8-10*, you'll probably want to really focus on batting since batting wins games in smallball.
Those are just general guidelines. The best part of smallball, is that any mistake you make, can be undone with time so don't worry if you make a small mistake or anything like that.
Very Happy

This is the point where you decide what kind of team you want, by the way they play, if your not sure, Keep balancing training until you do, some teams tend to use their offense better then their defense, and vice versa, this will later play a role in different stadiums, Get to know your players, and its always good to have a set schedule. Find something that works for you and go with it, if it doesnt work you can always alter it a bit.

Take care and have fun,

Tex

this is roughly what i did

throw for a week, to see who holds that skill best, then do the same with run and catch, then you try to max them, in those areas, till approx 7-8*, then bat

but try different things, put your pitchers on the bench, they are not needed until you start playing games yourself serious;ly

good luck

(and be sure to let us know when you have hit your first home run, lol, and when you have hit 9*)

I'd like to thank all of you for you knowledgable replies despite the fact that apparently it was a bad question with no real answer...

I guess I'll just train them in single skills on half pies working the defence and running for a while, and ultimatly work on getting a feel for my players first so that I can train them to be the best they can be...

Thanks again guys I really appreciate your input.

No such thing as a "bad" question.

(this is an old post i had found here... i'm just quoting the same thing)

chspogo wrote:
then after you should train strictly defense if you dont plan on being competitive yet then work in the offense

or

you can set a schedule example:

Code:
M - Throw
T-contact hitting
W- catch
T-  swing skill (at 9* you could change this one to bat power having it 2 times a week)
F- Run
S- Power
S- weakness (or blanket training up to you.. i prefer weakness)

hope this helps

some people train in a defense only schedule until about 8 or 9* then start using a schedule.. some people use a schedule right after finding pitchers. There are multiple options out there.. i've given you a basic idea, the rest is your chosing Wink

oh and some people train on 2 week schedules, some one more than that.. thats is a basic one, you should modify it to your liking Smile

hope it helps

Thank you chs... Just one question, by weakness do oyu mean you find train each players weakness as individuals...

Ex. Player One is a poor runner so you train them in running for that day and player two is a poor thrower so you train them in throwing on that day...

Or do you train the entire team in their weakness...

Ex. Team XXXX is drops too many balls as a team...I will use this extra day to train them in catching...

personally i do it individually because most likely there will still be a few guys that are at the top of the list and the skill really well and could use it somewhere else. Wink

Ok sounds easy enough, thank you very much, I'll probably put a schedule of some sort into effect shortly. Thanks a lot.
