As many of you are aware, the smallball.org domain has been suspended for that last 5 days.

The reason being is the account has not been paid by Andnow.com or the Commish.

Luckily due to my vast knowledge of this account (even though it's not mine) and also being a longtime customer of the company that hosts and suspended the Smallball account, I managed to get an extension of 2 weeks from the owner of the webhost to backup all files and close this forum down properly.

For the next week I highly suggest that everyone treats this a chance to say goodbye to these forums.

I suggest "Threads of all times" and Threads of the year" to be done ASAP so that they can be archived when the time comes.

Let's have some fun this last week and give the place a proper send off.

I realize this is not the news that most want to hear, but our (my) hands are tied, i tried to warn people, but they scoffed at me when the domain was renewed.. but thats cool.

I hope that we all take this second chance and go with it as long as we can.

The fat lady is humming

Well I guess it's time to finally pack the rest of my backs and move to GW's place. The only other SB releated site I'll visit is SmallStarz.
I think Beaner could get at least 10,000 posts in. Wink

I have been a daily lurker and infrequent poster since joining the board over a year ago.

First, I want to say thanks to Greek Wizard for his work in temporarily reviving this board and especially for making the World Sports Forum a first-class message board and online gathering place. If I ever get up Calgary way (my wife has family in Edmonton) I would be happy to shake his hand and buy him a drink.

Most of us canā€™t imagine the number of hours he put in to make WSF a great place to hang out, not to mention out of pocket expenses for hosting, subscriptions to the news feeds, chat rooms, and anything else. There would probably be few complaints if GW implements something like he notes in this post.

I also want to say thanks to all who participated in the boards. I enjoyed reading about trainers celebrating new milestones, and the advice that was freely given to novice trainers requesting help. Especially since this same newbie, might be knocking you off in the PLā€™s in the future

There is one person who, in my humble opinion, deserves a wheelbarrow full of coal in his stocking. I think you know who I mean. SmallBall, with its flaws (scoring errors, odd in-game AI, etc), is a fun game to play. I certainly have gotten my $20 worth in the past year plus. Itā€™s unfortunate that the game has been left on auto-pilot for as long as it has. And, like an airplane flying on auto-pilot, if it is left in that state, SmallBall, sadly, will eventually crash and burn. Hopefully someone who cares will be allowed to take control, and keep on growing the game.

I feel bad for those who bought add-ons, and never got their merchandise. We read the occasional post on these boards asking for help for undelivered tickets, teams, etc. Iā€™m sure there were many more we never heard from. Whether there was negligence, criminal intent, or if you-know-who was just a bad businessman, if I were to see his name associated with some other online game, I would be very hesitant to plunk down any money for it.

So, itā€™s time to move on. SmallBall may be on its last legs, but the friendships that were begotten through the game and these boards will go on. As time goes on, people who never heard of SmallBall, will join the new WSF community, and we will make new friends, we will share our joys, triumphs, sad times, failures, and other moments of our lives. And we will be better for it.

Letā€™s keep our fond memories of the past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future.

Thank you, GW, for all of your tireless, endless support. You have done more than anyone to keep the community together and I have to say...THANK YOU! I hope Santa has lots of goodies for you in his bag this holiday season. Please don't let the few frustrated members get you down. It happens to the best of the best (and you are the best of the best of the best Wink ) I haven't seen anyone else make the kind of effort you have to get everyone together and take care of this difficult situation.

Goodbye to SmallBall Forums and Happy Holidays to all!

Thanks Gw for giving everyone a chance to give these forums a respectful send off!
Why Commish/AndNow or whoever is resetting the seasons cannot see the spirit and potential
in this game and community is beyond all of us. I can honestly say that this was the best online
community I have been involved in and I hope the WSF can grow to match it.

Goodbye Smallball Forums. R.I.P!

Thanks to GW for doing this and giving me a chance to post a few last times. I've been playing this game over five years and I still play. (Anyone notice the pro qual rules reverted back to the old system of 5 games?)

Wizzy has gone out of his way to preserve this forum and has spent a lot of his time and money on his new site and still he gets slammed for his efforts. It's this kind of mean spirited, selfish negative thinking that led me to leave these forums in the first place. Well, thanks Wizzy for all the work and I'll see you around the new place.

Goodbye, SmallBall Forums. I've not technically been here since over a year ago, but this place was still the Main Square of SmallBall so-to-speak. I can honestly say that I did my share of growing up here (ages 14-17), and will never forget these forums. Thanks for all the selfless work on the forums, GW, and sorry for all the trouble I caused.

I am not much on posting here but, I come here to read this forum all of the time, and will miss this site. Thank you GW for all you have done over the years, and all of you who have made this community, so great. I am down to my last team, and still find it hard to give this game up. Here is too the smallball forums over the years!

I was going to post a link to Ozzy's "Goodbye to Romance" in tribute to the forums going down. I however didnt find not a single copy of it anywhere that didnt contain the F-word.
Most my age will understand the context of my thinking.
I will miss this forum terribly.

This was my first and only prolonged forum experience. I played the game for only 18 months, but I've been a part of the community for over 4 years now. I've taken a hiatus now and then, but I always come back. I guess my next hiatus will be permanent. So long SmallBall forums. It's been a fun ride, but I guess this is the last stop. I'll still see a few of you elsewhere, so not all is lost.

Thank you GW and SB Forums for giving me a place to feel safe. I have only played for a year and this year has been one of my best. I stopped hurting myself and started looking at things in a different light. Before this game life looked rather bleak too me. These forums and the game gave me something I never thought a game could do. It gave me my life back. Thank you SmallBall and thank you GW.

As farewells go this one has all the emotions that one could imagine poured into it. I do want to say that we can all sit around and just let this fade away, or continue with all that we started in the way of community. Let's support all the offshoot forums and sites and plans for the future that have stemmed from this community. Always take this in your head and your heart, SB Forums was just a forum, but there will continue to be the SB Community.

Fare Thee Well smallball.org, it is time to part.

and one last --> JtB

Heh, I remember the day this place first started up. I still think of these as the "new" forums, although they've been up for a good few years now.

I really don't know what to think. It's the people in this game that matter, not a domain name. But regardless, this place WAS SmallBall for the past (4?) years. And seeing it going away, well, sucks, to be honest.

I haven't had much to do at all with this game in 2-3 years. But to some extent or another, the people that play this game have helped shape the past 5 years of my life into what they are now, and for that, I'm thankful. And while most of the original people are long gone by now (and even some of the second tier originals are gone, as well), this sort of just feels like yet another part of the SmallBall community slipping away.

It's been a pleasure to have been part of this experience. I hope most everyone else feels the same way. This place will be missed, a lot.

~Brandon
