Subject description: A Fun Thread to Liven Up the Place
Reply with quote

Alright, the forum seems dead, and to liven this place up everyone post a short (paragraph or two) story about a SmallBall Memory that will always be with you. Doesn't matter what it is, if it is losing your last PL game to miss promotion, staying up all night for PL1 race, chatting in the OSBC all night, anything. I'll start it off.

Christmas of 2004 - SmallStarz Goes Crazy!
As we entered the Christmas season with the recent reopening of SmallStarz, all Moderators and helpers over at SS get a PM from Mater with LOADS of tickets. Everything imaginable, QTs, Lefties, Stadiums out the wazoo, Scouting Reports, EVERYTHING you could dream of, was there. And what did we do with these things? Give them out to the SmallBall community. What did this mean for me (and LCD)? TOURNAMENT TIME! Im not sure what the dates were, but I think LCD threw somewhere around six tournaments in a 24 hour period. It was INSANE. Everyone was ON the forums/chat, ALL THE TIME. Tournaments (in full power) would be going at three in the morning. Tickets were scattered all over the forums. Not only did this time picture the PERFECT Christmas spirit, but I like to view it as a SmallBall Utopia. Those were the glory days.

Poker nights in OSBC, back when all-nighters were a common thing for at least 4-5 of us to pull.

I remember in Devils Night I actually made the finals, and went up against one of their community teams. The game was going pretty bad because it was in homerun park and my team wasn't really trained for that kind of stuff. Anyways, I think I was down by 7 and so my team scored 8 runs in the top of the 9th...but ended up losing by 2 (I think..it's been a long time). I didn't really that I didn't win...it was fun watching the game and making Shocked smilies with Mcgov every time I scored a run in the ninth... Very Happy

Dude, this summer was insane too. It was last Christmas when we called everyone's cell wasnt it? That was funny as anything. Wake up calls were great this summer, even though it would take three or four to get you up. And Casino, well what more is needed to be said.

Christmas 04 was definitely one of the highlights of my time here at the Forums. Wasn't there also a Ticket Fairy who would give tickets to anyone who was on at the same time as him/her? Also there were tons of tournaments and giveaways, and everyone was in a great mood. Good times. I'll try to post some more memories tomorrow, because right now I'm pretty tired. Wink

That was so beautiful. Mostly because of the effort that had been put in for all the seasons before to keep him out...

What I remember most is when I realized I wasn't cutting up my arms with razor blades and ODing on my anti anxiety pills anymore because I was more concerned with my teams and how they were playing. I've said this before but I truly believe this game and everyone here who plays has saved my life. Thank you one and all.

The congratulations threads by Meat.

The twice monthly staying up late Sunday night, in OSBC waiting on DAS to play his PL1 games.

Hammer Wars.

Watching the PL qualifying list, and "killing" spawners trying to get into PL9.

Moneys old forum avatars.

Going into OSBC at any time day or night, and finding more than a few people to chat with.

Finally beating Psychos with Bats the first time (took over a year).

To many to mention, but when smallball was at its peak, there wasnt a better place to hangout. TTM, OSBC, OSBF was always filled with people, and we all became very close for a long time. Commish would come over to the chat sites all the time asking questions and answering questions. Hundreds and hundreds of people couldnt wait to give up something to the good of the community and the game. So many gave their heart and souls. Others gave what they could out of their pockets if they didnt have the the time to give. Even the bad guys were loved by all, as they were part of the big picture. I would even "think" smallball at work, and couldnt wait to come home to go to TTM, or just talk in msnm with so many friends that did the same thing.
Been here since 2001, and retired or gave away all my teams because...........it will never ever again, be.........

Too many good times guys. Never forget them. Unfortunately I think we can basically all smell the end. Even though the game lives on the community is basically nothing. No real chat, limited posting. It's a shame, however I'll never forget all the great, hilarious, unforgettable and fun moments we had in the chats back in the hay day. This is basically a good bye post for me guys. I know I've made them before and probably said exactly what I'm about to say just as many times but I won't be back, maybe the occasional post like tonight but other then that I have no reason to come back. No one's really around, game sucks, no real clans or friendly competition (tournies and such). It sucks guys but I won't ever forget this game. Even though I'm sure I won't talk to basically 100% of you guys (even though I'd like to) I would just like to say good bye officially for the last time. Long live Smallball.

I would just like to thank the following people even though I'll miss tons forgive me.
(In no particular order)
Smith, LCD, Malu, Money, JTB, Nic, IA, DocF, TW, WG, GW, Trace, Sol, BP, mcgov, danimal, supr, RH. Well that's who I'll name now cause I'm lazy but just basically everyone besides commish and the idiots of the forum. Like skeet or rubber ducky or trevor... Rolling Eyes

Ok im gonna have to go way back for this.

But ill never forget coming home from work logging on to Net Zero, after 10 or 15 minutes getting to my team page 6963.
Then wondering how could i suck so bad as this game i try hard i spend 8-12 hours a day on smallball.(Dont ask me how I couldnt imagine doing it now)
There was this team that no one could beat I'd lose by 20 runs every time.12 ANGRY MEN the greatest team in smallball unbeatable to me no matter how hard Id try.
So after dwelling on what a loser I am for a bit I log on to the real forums for my daily Fix of bickering, argueing and whining fits.
Only to find there was a TP leak that 12 angry men had used to be that great.

Beleive it or not thats what hooked me on this game.I realized i didnt suck as bad as I thought and everyone who had been whooping me were cheating ****'s.

And wookie I always knew you had it in you.

I remember when ANDNOW cared about this game. Oh no never mind it's been too long, I may have been mistaken.
I think when I had 13 teams at one time might have been a pretty big memory (As frustrating and insane as it was).
I probably also remember the SOI thread most too. That was a classic!
