Signatures

Signatures can have text, links, images (banners), or a combination of all three. These are all entered in your profile, under the profile information, in the Signature: window. There is a limit of 300 total characters that can be entered on this board.

Text

Just type in any text you want to be displayed.

Links

You can create links to your team pages, or other sites on the internet (such as league pages you create.)

Here are some examples:
___________________________________________________

This one is a basic URL for the Commissioners team
Code:
[url]http://smallball.com/go/on.ball.team?tid=4[/url]
Would give you - http://smallball.com/go/on.ball.team?tid=4
___________________________________________________

This one has the URL for the Commissioners team, a color, made bold, and text to display in place of the URL. In that order.
Code:
[url=http://smallball.com/go/on.ball.team?tid=4][color=red][b]New York 9[/b][/color][/url]
or
Code:
[url=http://smallball.com/go/on.ball.team?tid=4][color=#ff0000][b]New York 9[/b][/color][/url]
Would give you - New York 9

If you notice the second one has the hexadecimal code in place of the actual color, red. If you want to use a color that is not on the board, you can go to the following site for a list of the web safe hexadecimal color codes. Web safe color codes
___________________________________________________

Images or Banners

Images can be displayed in your signature by linking the URL that contains the image you want to use. You cannot use an image on your computer, it must be somewhere on the internet.

Here are some examples:
___________________________________________________

This one is a basic display of the Commissioners team banner
Code:
[img]http://smallball.com/small/community/images/ny9.jpg[/img]
Would give you -
___________________________________________________

This one is the Commissioners team banner linked to his team
Code:
[url=http://smallball.com/go/on.ball.team?tid=4][img]http://smallball.com/small/community/images/ny9.jpg[/img][/url]
Would give you -

Tips for finding your teams URL

  1. Do a search on the team number you need. Then click on the most recent game played. Once on the opponents team page, click on the game that was played against your team. The URL in your browser is the one you want to cut and paste to your signature.

    or

  2. Log into the SmallBall client with the team you want to link to. Then click on My Team, under the SmallBall.com button. This will open a window with the URL that you need to cut and paste to your signature.
Tip for size limit

If you find you have more than 500 characters in your signature. Go to the following link and enter your URL's to create smaller ones. Tinyurl.com

Banner size limits for this board

The forums are set up so that banners in your signature are allowed but there are restrictions. Please make sure when you post a banner or a team logo in your signature that is follows the guidelines.

The limitations for banners and signature pictures are:
Width - 400 pixels max.
Height - 100 pixels max..
Physical size - no more than 153,660 bytes (150kb)

A lot of you that are using the cool text program or other text creation sites need to make sure your text does not go wider than 400 pixels.

Those of you making rotating banner gifs with special effects like fading in, curtains, etc.... need to make sure they are less than 150kb as those special effects will often make the gif larger.

Banners should also contain jpegs or gifs to keep them smaller. Bitmaps will make them huge.

Once you have put the banner or text in your signature. Right click on it and then click on properties. You will be able to see how big your banner is. If it doesn't fit within those requirements as listed above then you need to edit it. If you don't know how to edit it. Then ask someone in the off topic forum if they will help you. There are a lot of people here who will help you to get them within the required sizes.

Avatars

This board is set up to allow you to have an avatar. This is done by copying the URL where the image is into the slot in the Avatar control panel at the bottom of your profile. You cannot use an image on your computer, it must be somewhere on the internet.

There is a limit of 90x90 pixels. So try to pick an image that fits so the system won't have to resize it for you. (a larger imager will slow down everyones viewing)

Also, for both signatures and linked banners:

When using multiple bbcode tags, make sure the closing tags go opposite of the beginning tags. ([url] - [color] - [size] - [/size] - [/color] - [/url]) If they aren't in the correct order you could cause display problems for some browsers.

General intructions for making banners

enigmatic wrote:
Covering some basics in PSP7 (most techniques work in any other imaging program as well) for making banners for your smallball team to use on this forum.

1. Make a New Image. Make the dimensions of the new image about 240x130, somewhere in that area of pixel size. After you have set the size (to get an accurate pixel size turn off "maintain aspect ratio") of the image, select the color you would like for your background on the color chart. select the "Flood Fill" tool (paint bucket) and color the new image with the color of your choosing.

2. If you have an image you would like to use to represent your team on your banner, you may also just open this image up and resize it by going to the "Image" tab at the top, and selecting "Resize" and setting the image size as stated above.

3. After you have chosen and done 1 or 2, select the "Text Tool" (appears as a upper case A on the tool box.) When you have selected the text tool, go to your image and click on it. After clicking, a dialogue box will pop up with fonts, color selection boxes, size settings, bold, italics, anything you will need to get that perfect text onto your banner. Select your font from the menu and your color (usually your teams actual color) and then hit OK.

4. Your text will appear on the banner with dotted lines around it, this means you may move it around on the banner to any place you like. Move it to a place where it will not interfere with the image much and then right click on the image away from the text to deselect it.

5. After you have your text on the banner, you can add effects to the image that will make it look sleek and cool. One of my favorites is the "Buttonize" effect. To get this effect, go to Effects and 3D Effects. Make sure the image is 16 million colors, or this is not a selectable feature. (to change the color go to the colors tab at the top.)

6. The border for the button effect will be the color you choose, so choose the color you like and then do the buttonize effect, select the sizes for the borders and Voila, you now have a Buttonized image that looks great in a forum atmosphere.

7. Save the image as you like it. After you have done so, you must host it for it to appear on the forums. there are pages to do this from also if you don't have a site of your own. one of these is www.strike9.com and another is www.orgsites.com after you have done this and have it up on a site, use the BBCode directions provided on this forums instructions to set up your image on your profile, and you are all set!

I've been making graphics for several years and trust me I seen graphc programs come and go.
I will give you a few tips that will help you make that great looking team banner for Smallball Forums.

You have to look at it this way, next to your teams name, your team banner/signiture means alot and you want it to look awesome and unique.

First, you have to know your computer system well, how to get around windows explorer, how to create folders as well as how to add files, such as .dll's and such. Without knowing your computer system well I would advise having someone make them or go to a "online" banner generator to make you one. Saves headaches down the road.

Second, picking the "Program" that you will need to create your teams banner/logo

If you have a scanner or digital cam sometimes they supply a Photo editing program with it that you can use. Best to go to www.google.com and look up the program and read on tips or how to's. Most of these programs are outdated and not a full feature program.

Programs I recommend...
Paintshop Pro 7 or 8. you can try the demo but cant do all the features such as the full version can do.
http://www.jasc.com/

Next will be Photo Impact Great program its like PSP above mixed with Adobe.. so you get the best of both worlds...
http://www.ulead.com/pi/runme.htm

Next will be Adobe Photoshop, a great tool but for the price and skill level needed the first 2 would be your better choices.
http://www.adobe.com/main.html

If You fall in to that group that wants to make banners but don't want to bother installing a program on your computer... there are alot of " Online" Banner Generators... some are free, some will ask you to use their logo or web addy someplace on your banner... some can make custom 3D annimated banners... its there for the choosing and here they are...

The Banner Generator

Mediabuilder 3D Text maker
http://www.3dtextmaker.com/

Annimation Online
http://www.animationonline.com/s/banner_templates.html

CoolText
http://www.cooltext.com/

Those are just a few..

I hope you find this helpful and make awsome Images for yourself..

Enjoy
